Savour juicy cuts at these 12 of the best steakhouses in Malta

After a long day of sightseeing, we thought we’d just grab something quick and call it a night. However, someone suggested a steakhouse in Malta, and our plans suddenly changed.

The sizzling plates and laughter that accompanied every bite turned dinner into one of the most exciting things to do. It felt more like an event in itself than just eating.

By the end, we agreed that some of the best memories don’t happen on tours or excursions. They happen around a table, with friends, and with food that steals the show.

1. Carvv Grill & Enoteca

Location: Carvv, DoubleTree by Hilton Malta, San Pawl il-Baħar SPB 2402

Contact: +35623552355

Hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 7 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Sunday: 12:30 PM – 3 PM and 7 PM – 10:30 PM

Pricing: €€

Carvv Grill & Enoteca carries that quiet confidence of a place that knows it doesn’t have to shout for attention. It was built on the idea of blending fine dining with the familiar comfort of a classic steakhouse.

The kitchen specialises in premium cuts, such as tomahawk and sirloin. Each is grilled over an open flame to achieve the perfect smoky char. Every plate comes out looking precise and deliberate.

Prices reflect the quality, but they never feel inflated for a hotel restaurant. Guests staying at the Hilton often enjoy package dining discounts, and even locals say it’s worth dressing up for.

Pro Tip:
If you’ll use the free hotel parking (they note “complimentary parking” in reviews) you’ll want early arrival to secure good access.

2. Porterhouse

Media credit: porterhousemalta

Website: https://www.porterhousemalta.com/

Location: Triq Gorg Borg Olivier, Il-Mellieħa

Contact: +35679389977

Hours:

  • Monday: 12 AM – 3 PM and 6 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Tuesday to Sunday: 6 PM – 10:30 PM

Pricing: €€

Porterhouse in Mellieħa has built its reputation on dry-aged beef, and you can tell the moment you look at the menu. The interior has a sleek, almost fine-dining style, but it remains warm enough that you don’t feel intimidated.

The dry-aged porterhouse was the star. Cooked over a Josper charcoal grill, it carried a smoky flavour that complemented the tenderness of the cut. It was one of the more refined steaks we tasted in Malta.

What makes the price worthwhile are the extras. Sides, such as truffle mash and seasonal vegetables, were plated with as much care as the meat itself.

Pro Tip:
Ask for a dry-aged cut cooked on the Josper grill. You get a stronger flavour from the charcoal and more value out of the ageing process.

3. Sciacca Grill

Media credit: sciacca_grill_malta

Website: https://sciaccamalta.com/

Location: Triq Santu Wistin, San Ġiljan STJ 3310

Contact: +35621331310

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 6 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€€

Sciacca Grill draws inspiration from a Sicilian village, and its butcher-style concept sets it apart. The first thing you see is the counter of fresh cuts.

Choosing directly from the display adds a sense of involvement. The Tomahawk steak we had came with a crisp sear and flavour that made it worth every euro. It’s the kind of steak that you slow down to savour.

The specials board adds another layer to the experience. Cuts that don’t make the printed menu often show up there, so it keeps things interesting even if you’ve been more than once.

Pro Tip:
Request the staff to weigh your chosen cut before cooking. This way, you only pay for the exact portion you want, avoiding overspending.

4. Buffalo Bill’s Steak House

Media credit: buffalobills_malta

Website: https://buffalobillsteakhouse.com/

Location: Triq Il-Knisja, St. Julian’s, Malta, Portomaso

Contact: +35621389290

Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 6 PM – 11 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 6 PM – 12 AM
  • Sunday: 11 AM – 4 PM and 6 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€

Buffalo Bill’s has been a fixture at Portomaso Marina for years, leaning into a playful Wild West theme. The wooden décor and cowboy-style touches give it a fun feel that’s different from Malta’s sleeker, more polished steakhouses.

The Angus ribeye here was hearty and came with extras, such as garlic bread and access to a salad bar. Considering what’s included, it’s one of the better-value options around the marina.

The terrace is where the experience levels up. Sitting outside, looking over the yachts and the marina lights at night, turns a relaxed dinner into something scenic and memorable.

Pro Tip:
For a quieter, more relaxed experience (and better terrace views) go for the early dinner slot around 6 PM to 7 PM before it gets busier.

5. Chukkas Mosta

Media credit: chukkas_malta

Website: https://chukkasmosta.com/

Location: Triq Durumblat Mosta MST, 4812

Contact: +35620992996

Hours:

  • Monday to Saturday: 7 PM – 10 PM
  • Sunday: 12 PM- 3:30 PM and 7 PM – 10 PM

Pricing: €€

Chukkas has strong ties to Malta’s polo scene, and that history is part of its charm. Eating while watching the polo grounds stretch out beside you gives the place a sense of character you won’t find elsewhere.

The steaks here are done Argentinian-style over a wood fire, and you can taste the difference. The ribeye we had was smoky and seasoned lightly enough to let the beef do the talking.

Dessert caught us off guard. Their homemade banoffee pie was smooth and surprisingly light, which perfectly balanced the richness of the steak. It showed us they know how to carry flavour all the way to the end of the meal.

Pro Tip:
Buy their raw steak cuts if you plan to cook at home. It costs less per kilogram than dining out, and you get the same high-quality beef.

6. Sticky Fingers BBQ Malta

Media credit: stickyfingersbbqmalta

Website: https://stickyfingers.mt/

Location: 1 Triq Wied Ghomor, San Ġiljan STJ 2041

Contact: +35621380082

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 5 PM – 10:30 PM

Pricing: €€

Sticky Fingers BBQ is all about bold flavours and big portions. The décor is colourful, the music is upbeat. The whole place feels designed for groups who want to have a good time.

The mixed platter, piled high with ribs and steak, and the Jack Daniel’s glaze was the flavour that really stood out (sweet and smoky). It gave the platter a punch that kept us talking about it afterwards.

Pro Tip:
Order one of the sharing platters. It is cheaper per person and lets everyone try more than one type of meat.

7. Lore & Fitch

Website: https://www.loreandfitch.com/

Location: 8 St George’s Road, St Julian’s STJ 3246

Contact: +35621385000

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 12 PM – 2:45 PM and 6 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€

Lore & Fitch is one of the more elegant steakhouses in Malta. Sitting by the riverside gives it a scenic backdrop that already makes the evening feel special.

The brand story highlights the founder Riccardo Lorefice’s Sicilian roots and his ambition to translate his family-heritage restaurant experience into a dedicated steakhouse concept.

The Fiorentina steak came out massive. It was perfectly medium-rare, paired with roasted vegetables. It was a showpiece of a dish that made sharing not just practical but fun.

Pro Tip:
Go for a Fiorentina steak to split. It is served bone-in, looks impressive at the table, and ends up costing less than ordering two separate steaks.

8. The Smokehouse

Media credit: smokehouse.mt

Website: https://smokehouse.mt/

Location: 136 Triq Ix – Xatt, Il-Gżira

Contact: +35627200315

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 12 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€

The Smokehouse doesn’t hold back on its identity. The moment you walk in, the aroma of wood smoke fills the air, setting the stage for what’s to come.

The restaurant’s concept centers around hot-smoking and grilling meats and fish, making “smoked” dishes a signature style here.

Menu items include hot-smoked pork ribs, Brazilian rib eye steak, and more. The ribeye had a bold crust that carried a deep smoky flavour in every bite. It felt like a proper barbecue-style steak, distinct from the standard grill method you typically find in other restaurants.

Pro Tip:
Arrive a bit before peak dinner hours (say 6 PM) if you want to avoid delays in service or limited dish availability.

9. Brass & Knuckle

Media credit: brassandknucklemalta

Website: https://www.brassandknuckle.com/

Location: 5 Triq l-Oratorju, In-Naxxar

Contact: +35627222722

Hours:

  • Monday: 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Tuesday to Thursday: 10 AM – 3 PM and 5:30 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 10 AM – 10:30 PM
  • Sunday: 12:30 PM – 11:30 PM

Pricing: €€

Brass & Knuckle combines a butcher shop with a steakhouse, which immediately sets it apart. Seeing the cuts on display before you order gives the whole place an authentic edge.

The aged ribeye with truffle fries felt indulgent without being too heavy. Starting with a charcuterie board was a nice way to ease into the evening, keeping meat as the star from start to finish.

Service here deserves credit too. Staff explained the cuts clearly and offered suggestions without making it feel overwhelming, striking a balance between professional and approachable.

Pro Tip:
Arrive early if you want premium cuts, such as Wagyu. These sell out quickly, and arriving early means you get the best value for your money.

10. Beefbar on the Beach

Media credit: beefbar_maltabeach

Website: https://beefbar.com/malta-beach/

Location: Dawret Il-Gzejjer, San Pawl il-Baħar

Contact: +35621580999

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 10 AM – 10 PM

Pricing: €€€

Beefbar on the Beach in St. Paul’s Bay combines fine dining with a resort-style atmosphere. The architectural design is by the duo Emil Humbert and Christophe Poyet. They aimed to integrate the venue into the natural environment “between land and sea.”

The space is divided into two main areas: a seated restaurant and a luxurious pool club with sun-beds.

Here, you can choose from premium cuts such as the Terroir fillet (200 g) and the Center-cut ribeye (300 g). They even list a tomahawk 1.4 kg for ⅔ option, which is a show-piece steak.

Pro Tip:
Ask for a table by the infinity pool or edge overlooking the sea. The golden-hour sunset makes your steak dinner feel Instagram worthy.

11. Fluid Rib & Steak House

Media credit: fluid.malta

Website: https://www.fluidsteakhouse.com.mt/

Location: WFFQ+V4, St Julian’s

Contact: +356 9944 1177

Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 11 AM – 11 PM
  • Friday and Saturday: 11 AM – 12 AM
  • Sunday: 11 AM – 11:30 PM

Pricing: €€

Fluid Rib & Steak House is as lively as the Bay Street area it’s set in. The atmosphere is busy, and feels like part of a night out rather than just dinner.

Their menu emphasises a “choice of fresh cuts on our display” and highlights steak specialities including Angus, USDA and “Green Fed” meat cuts.

The tomahawk steak here is a clear showstopper. It’s massive and perfectly cooked. It instantly grabs attention the moment it arrives at the table.

Pro Tip:
If it’s your birthday, they offer free meal (for the birthday person) if you book a minimum of 4 people. I recommend taking advantage of this opportunity to save.

12. Relais de Paris Malta

Media credit: relaisdeparis_mt

Website: https://relaisdeparis.com.mt/

Location: Triq Santu Wistin, San Ġiljan STJ 3310

Contact: +35621330090

Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 12 PM – 4 PM and 6 PM – 11 PM

Pricing: €€

Relais de Paris brings French bistro charm right into Malta. From the décor to the menu, it confidently sticks to its Parisian roots.

The steak frites with béarnaise sauce was simple yet flawless. The iconic “Original Sauce” option adds a subtle, buttery richness that sets it apart from typical steak frites elsewhere.

Dessert carried the theme to the end. Cracking into a perfectly caramelised crème brûlée added a satisfying close to the meal.

Pro Tip:
Pair your steak with their French wine or cocktail. Choose Bordeaux or a classic French cocktail like a Kir Royale to enhance the experience.
