Choose quality care with these 5 best nursing services in Malta

Certifications and qualifications: We prioritised nursing services in Malta that employ licensed nurses and carers with recognised qualifications.

Experience and care quality: We considered each home’s years of operation and reputation for delivering compassionate, consistent care. Homes with established management teams and experienced staff stood out for their stability and reliability.

Pricing and value for money: We looked for nursing homes that offer transparent pricing, balancing affordability with high-quality care.

Facilities and comfort: We assessed the quality of living spaces, including room layouts, meal plans, and access to outdoor or recreational areas.

Availability and accessibility: We also considered how easy it is to secure a place and whether locations are convenient for family visits and nearby healthcare facilities.

Many of us grew up with grandparents who played a huge part in our lives. As they age, roles shift, and we become the ones ensuring they are cared for and kept comfortable.

In Malta, more families are seeking nurturing environments. We heard stories from families who felt deeply relieved after finding a place where their loved ones were socially engaged and cared for by trained professionals.

To guide families seeking a trustworthy, comforting option, we have compiled a list of reliable providers offering nursing services in Malta. These services have earned appreciation for the care and sense of community they provide.

How much do nursing services cost in Malta?

Nursing services in Malta typically cost €2,000 to €4,500 per month, depending on the level of assistance required, room type, and services provided. Premium private homes can cost up to €6,000 monthly.

Dar il-Madonna tal-Mellieħa has a comforting community feel, which makes sense given that CareMalta has been operating it since 2008 under its long-term PPP model.

The mix of accommodation and clinical services is a significant advantage, particularly with the adjacent clinic and the inclusion of both a day centre and a night shelter. It creates a steady flow of people, making the atmosphere a bit livelier.

However, access is through the Elderly and Community Care Department, and public-sector procedures can significantly delay progress. It becomes an issue if you need quick placement, as timing depends on government processing.

Nonetheless, within the facility, the rooms stand out for their balconies, motorised beds, and comprehensive safety systems. The dining setup, in-house laundry, and twice-weekly hairdresser give it a comfortable experience.

What caught the attention was how connected the home is to the community. It offers ECG tests, palliative care, and even tech courses for seniors. Combined with resident meetings and the on-site chapel, it feels warm and easy to appreciate.

Pros

  • Operated by CareMalta under a PPP structure
  • On-site clinic plus day centre and night shelter
  • Well-equipped rooms with safety systems
  • Daily meals and in-house services
  • Active-ageing programmes

Cons

  • Admission depends on government procedures

Home itself is like a 4-star hotel

“Such caring staff! My mum improved 100% in the 1st week she arrived there. Everybody is friendly but professional and very helpful. The home it’s self is like a 4 star hotel. I came back to the UK knowing that between my loving father, sisters and everybody at the home my loving mother will get the best life and care anyone can have. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and hope to see you all soon xx”

Welcoming and clean

“Went to visit a friend of mine that i just learned shes at Mellieha Home. I haven’t seen her for 49 years. The home is welcoming, clean,  and on entry ,the receptionist was very helpful.  Well done. I think i be moving in there soon.”

If you’re leaning toward a care model that adapts to your home life, HealthMark easily stands out. Their 30-plus years in Malta’s healthcare sector are evident in how smoothly they organise home-based support, from short visits to full 24/7 care.

It is reassuring that their team handles everything from basic companionship to complex tasks such as wound care, catheter care, and PEG/NG feeding at home.

In fact, HealthMark Academy trains its staff through accredited courses and simulation labs. This setup provides their nurses with a noticeably stronger clinical foundation. The Academy even runs Maltese language training and a Dubai centre for incoming staff.

Additionally, the range of services is unusually comprehensive—Meals-on-Wheels, transitional “hospital to home” support, emergency last-minute care, and dementia or palliative care.

The partnership with the Malta Dementia Society also adds a level of community commitment that many families value, especially when cognitive decline is a concern.

One thing worth considering is that HealthMark isn’t a traditional nursing home operator, so placement in a residential facility isn’t something they directly provide.

Pros

  • Flexible home-based care
  • Large workforce with nurses and specialised staff
  • Accredited training and simulation labs
  • Broad range of services
  • Strong dementia and palliative care support

Cons

  • Not a dedicated nursing home operator

Dedicated to providing excellent service

“Healthmark has a good heart for its employees and clients alike. The company is dedicated to provide excellent service to its clients.”

Quite supportive and friendly

“I had a wonderful experience with the Healthmark. They supported me in getting a job when I came to Malta in 2021.The General Manager (Charlo )and HR (Raisa )were quite supportive and friendly.”

3CMalta was founded by an ICU nurse and is backed by a team with strong medical backgrounds. That foundation shows in how confident they are with complex nursing needs like catheter care, diabetic support, and PEG or NG feeding right at home.

The personalised care-matching system feels thoughtful. It involves the client’s doctor and an interdisciplinary team, making the care plan feel more robust.

Another factor that makes the service feel reliable is its tech-enabled visit tracking, which logs carer arrivals and handovers via an app. Knowing there’s a system that keeps carers accountable adds a sense of security to the whole setup.

However, their home care setup cannot support advanced medical procedures. Clients requiring complex interventions must be transferred to another facility rather than receive care on-site.

Even so, the live-in option, the interdisciplinary support, and the strong preventive-care mindset make the experience feel complete and genuinely client-centred.

Pros

  • Strong clinical foundation
  • Personalised care-matching system
  • Interdisciplinary care planning
  • Tech-enabled visit tracking for transparency
  • Live-in care and preventive care focus

Cons

  • Cannot support advanced medical procedures

With a holistic attention to detail

“In a most sensitive time when we direly needed  to find a live in carer for our vulnerable parents, 3CMalta excelled in the highly professional, skillful yet emphatic and kind way with which they assisted us and delivered beyond our expectations. With a holistic attention to detail and with authentic care,  they steered us through the process and ensured the wellbeing and contentment of everyone, in order to set the right foundation for respectful and caring relationships to form. Our gratitude is beyond words.”

Holistic, professional, and unhurried level of service

“My mother was diagnosed with progressing dementia at a relatively young age which was a shock to all the family. It was such a blessing that we found the services of 3C. Bernard and his team guided and cared for my mum and the whole family throughout the whole process. Their advice and all the services…carer, physio and most especially nursing, was at that holistic, professional and unrushed level that you feel your loved one truly deserves. Thank you!”

Casa San Paolo immediately gives off that hotel-style vibe, which isn’t surprising given the €10 million investment poured into transforming the old hotel into this care home.

Knowing it’s backed by CareMalta, an operator that has run homes since 1993 and cares for over 1,600 residents, adds a sense of reliability from the start.

Walking through the place, the layout feels spacious, and the 205-bed capacity is thoughtfully organised. It has single rooms that prioritise privacy, plus air conditioning, cable TV, and a proper nurse call system in every room.

As we spent more time here, the 24/7 nursing coverage and on-site clinical services stood out as particularly helpful. Phlebotomy, physiotherapy, and occupational therapy are available.

The only drawback is the occasional waitlist for specialised units, which can disrupt planning if someone needs a high-dependency room urgently.

But on the lifestyle side, the chapel dedicated to St Paul, the regular Masses, and even room-to-room Holy Communion bring a comforting touch. The activity schedule keeps things lively too, with outings every two weeks and the Festi Rħula celebration.

Pros

  • Modern and hotel-style environment
  • Operated by CareMalta with long-standing experience
  • Strong medical capability
  • 24/7 nursing and therapies
  • Active social schedule and regular outings

Cons

  • Waiting lists for specialised high-dependency units

St. Vincent De Paul Residence has a long history as a government-operated facility serving hundreds of seniors, which lends it a sense of structure and purpose.

Since the admissions team reviews assessments and documents in detail, the process feels organised. Note, however, that the residence’s size can feel institutional, and its scale sometimes makes the environment less intimate.

Once inside, the clinical side makes a strong impression with its 24-hour medical services and consultant geriatricians. It also offers on-site pharmacy support, plus ENT and hearing tests for residents aged 65 and over.

Another highlight is their therapy integration. It spans occupational and speech therapy, podiatry, and functional rehabilitation.

Even the newly refurbished St Francis 2 ward, with oxygen outlets in every room, private bathrooms, and improved ventilation, demonstrates how seriously the residence takes upgrades.

Also, their dementia activity day centre brings energy that enhances therapeutic sessions. Add their daily activities, the on-site training centre for carers, and the residence feels like a place that keeps evolving.

Pros

  • Detailed admission and assessment process
  • 24-hour medical service with consultant geriatricians
  • In-house pharmacy and day hospital
  • Offers occupational therapy and functional rehab
  • Modernised St Francis 2 ward
  • Dementia activity day centre

Cons

  • Large institutional scale may feel less home-like

Very kind and thoughtful

“I would like to express serious gratitude towards Joanna and Nathalie at the reception entrance desk at St. Vincent de Paul Residence. They both took care of my parents so so much and were very kind and thoughtful, especially towards my father who encountered a problem and was unable to drive on Sunday 21st September, 2025. They insisted that he should wait until I arrive and could take them home and stayed with them till I arrived. Thankyou. Also, I would really like to praise their care and effort to caring for people even people who are not patients of the residence and were there to visit patients. Keep up the good work Joanna and Nathalie and I wish there were more people like you 2 in the world. Thank you!”

Professional and efficient

“I’ve only been to the outpatient complex but I can vouch that this is a state of the art kind of place. Besides the staff is kind, helpful, generous and very respectful. And of course very professional and efficient.”
