The 5 best vet clinics in Malta that raise the bar for pet care

Certifications and professional standards: We prioritised veterinary clinics with fully licensed veterinarians and registered nurses, ensuring every pet is treated by qualified professionals who follow Malta’s strict veterinary regulations and welfare standards.

Range of services and specialisation: We reviewed clinics that offer more than basic check-ups, including diagnostics, dental care, and behaviour support.

Pricing and value for money: We assessed each clinic’s consultation fees, treatment costs, and package options.

Facilities, equipment, and accessibility: We focused on clinics with well-equipped facilities and strong accessibility. This includes having labs, X-ray machines, and emergency support, while also ensuring they are easy to reach.

After-hours support and client care: We assessed each clinic's responsiveness, its provision of reliable after-hours or emergency arrangements, and its communication with pet owners.

Pets quickly become part of the family, bringing comfort and joy—even on the toughest days. Naturally, we want the best care for them, whether it’s for growth or routine checkups.

A reliable vet clinic in Malta can make all the difference, offering expertise and kindness that both pets and owners appreciate. Regular care keeps pets healthy, happy, and ready for more cuddles and chaos at home.

To help you find the right care, we’ve compiled a list of trusted clinics that prioritise the well-being of your beloved companions.

Vetcare Animal Clinic stands out immediately with its 30-plus years of experience and licensed status (VC002). The ability to treat not just cats and dogs but also rabbits, reptiles, and other exotic pets makes the clinic incredibly versatile.

We appreciate that they offer a wide range of services. This includes vaccinations, dental care, microchipping, and parasite prevention, all in one place.

In-house X-ray, ultrasound, and quick lab diagnostics also make visits more efficient. Plus, routine results are ready within the hour.

However, their specialised pathology and cytology tests are processed externally, which naturally leads to slower turnaround times for more complex medical cases.

Nevertheless, the structured clinical behaviour service is led by an MSc-qualified behaviourist and offers targeted support for pets with anxiety or behavioural concerns.

The surgical capabilities are broad. It ranges from routine neutering to orthopaedic procedures, giving the clinic a strong sense of depth and reliability.

Pros

  • Provides care for exotic pets
  • Wide range of services
  • Delivers in-house X-ray and ultrasound
  • Fast routine lab results
  • Provides clinical behaviour services
  • Performs routine and orthopaedic surgeries

Cons

  • Sends specialised pathology and cytology tests externally

The staff was great and very caring

“Was here yesterday, and the day before. We had to wait quite a bit, because they had several emergency incidents to take care of. The staff was great, very caring to our Pommeranian, Andy, with his dislocated leg. If you care about your pet, like i do, you should appreciate the fact that they prioritize emergencies before scheduled appointments. Should your own pet be in an emergency, you will understand. Thank you to the great staff.”

Empathy and understanding have been amazing

“Recently, we sadly had to say goodbye to our beloved dog Coco. Since he was diagnosed with cancer, a year ago, Vetcare has been incredible. We couldn’t have asked for a better team of vets and nurses to take care of him. Their empathy and understanding has been amazing and we are extremely grateful to everyone we saw during this time ; Dr Korvac, Dr Julia and above all Dr Andrew. A special mention to all the hardworking veterinary nurses who do such an amazing job too. Thank you everyone at Vetcare in San Gwann.”

Their range of services covers wellness exams, geriatric checks, vaccinations, and microchipping. The team also handles EU pet passports and government registrations, keeping travel-related tasks simple.

Another standout is their emphasis on stray-animal care, offering medical support and low-cost surgery through welfare partnerships.

The clinic’s surgical work also includes spaying and neutering under gaseous anaesthesia, which is reassuring for pets needing safer operations.

On the flip side, the 24-hour emergency access is offered through an external on-call network rather than in-clinic staff. As a result, this can feel less direct in urgent moments.

Pleasant and helpful at all times

“Came with a very sick dog in desperation. My dog was examined by Dr. Quentin Lawson, he was given appropriate acute management and diagnosis with outmost care. Further follow up was excellent. On top of outstanding medical service provided i was pleasantly surprised with their prices compared to other clinics. Staff of the clinic was pleasant and helpful at all times. Definitely would recommend their services to other pet owners.”

Took the time to explain everything well

“Congratulations to the vets and all the assistance. My cat bella was operated on this morning for an ovary that the last vet ever found. The clinic’s diagnostic setup feels strong. They offer blood tests, microscopy, blood pressure monitoring, ophthalmic exams, and on-site ultrasound and X-ray.

The drawback, however, is that their services can be more expensive than those of other clinics in the area.

Regardless, their free nurse clinic is genuinely helpful. It covers preventive care, including dental hygiene, tick treatment, and weight management. It also adds a valuable educational layer to each visit.

The kennel facilities for hospitalised pets are reassuring, with veterinary nurses monitoring recovering animals throughout their stay. Even with their routine and non-routine surgeries feel a relationship-focused approach

“I recommend Animal Medical Center! The doctor has an incredible approach to animals – kind, patient, and full of genuine care. You can truly see his big heart and deep passion for what he does, combined with impressive knowledge and experience. The Vet Center Malta has a small team consisting of Dr. Alessia and nurse Daniela, making each consult feel familiar. Their mix of in-clinic visits and proper house-call appointments works perfectly for pets who tense up in a traditional vet setting.

Their Wednesday online consultations add another layer of convenience. This is especially true for mild concerns that don’t need a physical exam.

Another advantage the clinic has is its strong emphasis on preventive care. They offer routine blood screening for both cats and dogs to catch health issues early.

Their travel-focused services make prepping pets for trips smoother. These include microchipping, passport registration, and even at-home passport issuance.

What adds even more personality to the experience is their home-based end-of-life support. It’s handled with sensitivity and clarity, which many owners will value.

Highrise Veterinary Clinic has 20 years of experience and a team that includes vets like Dr. Duncan Chetcuti Ganado and Dr. Zuzanna Dobrzynska.

The clinic’s location on Triq L-Imradd makes it highly convenient for routine care or scheduled treatments.

Walking in, the modern setup stands out, especially with their PROCYTE One and CATALYST One machines. These allow them to run blood tests immediately.

Their digital X-ray and ultrasound add an extra layer of reassurance. Having external specialists interpret complex scans gives a sense of thoroughness.

More effective and economical

“I want to thank the doctors of this place for being so kind and so sweet with our visits a few days ago, my dog had an allergy at night around 11pm and my husband took her to this place and she was quickly attended and sent some medications which helped a lot, I am grateful to have found this veterinarian because a few months ago the same thing happened with my dog and I spent more than 400€ and she was slow to improve and the place that had taken her only worsened everything (other place). Here it was much more effective and economical. Thank you to all the staff for working on what they truly love and that is reflected in their efficiency. Thank you.”

Professional, methodical, and patient

“We are a british couple that rescued a maltese stray cat. We were lucky enough to be recommended to Highrise. They have been professional, methodical, patient and compassionate with our now rehomed cat. They accurately completed her pet passport administered various treatments to ensure we were able to bring her home to the UK. Highrise also gave us the contact details of a government vet in order to complete further necessary documentation. Thankyou, we couldn’t have done it without you!!”
