Sometimes, you spot something at a clothing store that’s just perfect for your style, but sadly, it’s not available in your size. Instead of giving up, a quick trip to the tailor can make all the difference.
Tailors have a knack for adjusting clothes to fit you just right. Whether it needs to be lengthened or taken in, they are the experts who can make it work.
Good thing, there are several reliable tailors in Malta, and I’m willing to share them with you. So don’t worry too much about sizing and start wearing what you love.
How much do tailors charge in Malta?
Tailors in Malta typically charge between €10 and €28 per alteration. The final cost can vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of the alteration, the fabric used, and any additional materials or special techniques required.

Alterations Studio is one of my go-to tailors in Malta. Appointments aren’t required. Yes, walk-ins are welcome, and they can alter just about any type of clothing.
I was drawn in by their unique ways of altering. They don’t just make clothes fit; they turn them into unique pieces tailored according to the client’s preferences. I’ve spoken to a few clients who have had shirts and hoodies turned into cropped ones with stylish designs.
Other than that, they can easily do shirt alterations, such as covering stitch hems and shortening of sleeves. Additionally, they can alter wedding dresses, which is great for those who want to relive the magic.
Alterations here are fairly cheap, with most being roughly around €30 or less.
However, their working hours are a bit confusing, since they close at different times each day.
I’m beyond grateful and highly recommend the place
“I had a very special and meaningful project — incorporating a patch of my grandma’s handmade embroidery into one side of a jacket.
But the end result? Absolutely stunning!
I’m beyond grateful and highly recommend the place to anyone looking for alterations. This was more than just tailoring — it was a way of preserving memory through fashion, and the seamstress truly honored that.”

With over 60 years of experience, Mr. Abela of Abela Alterations has been a go-to for locals in Sliema. Aside from working with individuals, he can also provide services to shops, which is quite unique.
His shop can easily alter jeans, shirts, and trousers to great effect. Additionally, he can alter dresses and sweaters, with many clients having used his service for more than a decade.
I was also impressed by his mending services, which included sewing and patching small holes in shirts and dresses. Clients have also commended him for his timely work, which is typically finished within the day.
Other notable services include Mr. Abela’s alterations for curtains, stitching, and fixing them to better fit old and new windows. He can even stitch and fix zippers, which is handy for jeans and jackets.
However, I found it difficult to find the shop because it’s on the 6th floor of a shopping centre.
I’m very glad I found such a great tailor
“Leaving a review because I am surprised by how little he has!
I’ve been going to Mr. Abela for about 10 months now and I bring a lot of items. They vary from jeans to dresses to sweaters etc., but regardless of the item, material or task itself, he always does an immaculate job. In fact, last time he told me he has been tailoring since he was 12 years old.
I’m very glad I found such a great tailor! I can only recommend.”

3. Bortex Fine Tailoring

Address: A11 Industrial Estate, Il-Marsa MRS 3000
Contact Details: +356 2125 2184
Operating Hours: Monday to Saturday: 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM
Bortex Fine Tailoring is one of Malta’s longest-established and most respected names in men’s formal tailoring. I found their made-to-measure clothes to be best for corporate attire, but they can also be worn casually.
Established in 1964, they have a wide catalogue of clothing, ranging from menswear to womenswear to childrenswear. These can range from casual clothing, such as shirts and trousers, to semi-formal items, such as polo shirts and blazers.
I have even spoken to clients who have used their service for their child’s holy communion, which is a big thing here in Malta. These custom suits and dresses are comfortable and make any child the star of the event.
With several stores across the island, they are the most accessible tailor in Malta. As a result, they are preferred by many Maltese for graduations, black-tie events, and weddings.
Still, their prices can be quite steep compared to competitors.
They never disappoint the client
“Very well trained staff, they never disappoint the client and respect their requests, very big choice of materials and colours of suits. I truly recommend them.”

I personally love the Island Tailor Shop as they are a reliable service in Sliema that’s quick and fairly priced. Customer satisfaction is their top priority here, and many clients can agree that they’re an incredible service.
Ms. Ozge, the lead tailor, is a true professional. Her convenient service is open almost daily, with long hours that are perfect for those emergency tears and immediate adjustments.
I love that the stitching here is almost seamless, with many of the alterations being almost unnoticeable. Adjustments are made per the client’s request, while offering great suggestions for design motifs that can make a piece pop.
The best part of her service is that she also offers ironing, so you can wear your alterations right away with minimal fuss.
However, I would appreciate it if Ms. Ozge kept a catalogue of her work, as many clients greatly admire it.

5. Zahra Tailors

Contact Details: +356 7712 6734

Zahra’s Tailors is a small, quaint shop run by the wonderful Zahra. Her work focuses on summer clothing, stitching and adjusting them to fit either more snugly or loosely, depending on the client’s wishes.
She can alter most types of clothing, like pants, dresses, and shirts. Additionally, she specialises in different types of Asian attire, able to restore them or sew new ones that are traditionally accurate.
Zahra can work with different types of fabric and easily mend minor damage to clothes, such as small holes.
Other than that, she’s great at sewing dresses and curtains, and a few customers love the new prom dresses she created for them. These are often bespoke and one-of-a-kind, and are much cheaper than designer ones.
Despite these great services, Zahra isn’t always available. It’s wise to call her before heading to her shop.
