5 best preschools in Malta for high-quality education

Licensing and Registrations: I only chose preschools that are registered with the Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education.

Staff Qualifications: I selected institutions that house educators with an MQF Level 4 Certificate in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Extensiveness of Curriculum: I picked preschools that focus on play-based learning that integrates the study of languages and social and emotional communication.

Quality of Facilities: I went for institutions that have a great balance of indoor and outdoor locations, such as classrooms and playgrounds, for students to play and study in.

The best time to teach children is between the ages of 0 and 5. But most parents don’t have the time or energy to handle that alongside household chores and work. On the other hand, hiring a single tutor can sometimes be costly.

In this regard, I found preschools to be the best course of action. These facilities are designed and dedicated to giving toddlers room to grow and learn basic skills, such as writing, speaking, and reading.

Lucky for you, I have listed the best preschools in Malta. At these locations, babies and toddlers are given a strong foundation to grow into studious and respectful children.

How much is preschool tuition in Malta?

Preschool tuition in Malta typically costs €300 to €500 per month. This price may vary depending on available childcare subsidies, the child’s age, and the preschool’s location.

With over 15 years of experience, The Nursery School Childcare Centre has expanded across the Maltese islands to become a prime preschool for children. Having locations in Swieqi, Gzira, and 2 in Mosta, they can cater to a wide range of children at all times.

The Gzira location mainly provides services to children 3-36 months old, which I found best for toddlers and young children.

I like that this preschool provides two child-caring schemes—mainly the free childcare scheme and the private childcare scheme.

With support from the government, the free childcare scheme allows families of all incomes to receive proper early childhood education. The private, on the other hand, offers higher quality education at a cost, which I find to be well worth it.

But they are not upfront about their fees, so please contact them before availing their private tutors.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience
  • Several different locations
  • Takes care of children 3-36 months old
  • Unique two-child-caring schemes

Cons

  • Not upfront about fees

Inspired by Waldorf Education, Waldorf Childcare Centre—also known as Magic Castle Malta—has been providing holistic learning to children and toddlers.

I adore this method, as it teaches students unique skills rather than the typical academic experience other schools provide.

Classes cover a wide range of subjects, ranging from yoga to gardening to even music, which I find to be practical skills that are worth the child’s time.

Honestly, this method seems to work due to the institution’s many awards. These awards are also nothing to scoff at, as they have been awarded by 2 presidents of Malta and the Business of the Year Award… twice.

Also, availing their services is easy and can be done on their website. However, it’s difficult to gauge their selection process since they are not upfront about the enrollment requirements.

Pros

  • Unique Waldorf Education system
  • Covers a wide range of subjects
  • Teaches students practical skills
  • Award-winning preschool

Cons

  • Doesn’t disclose enrollment requirements

Since opening its doors in 2018, Lil’ Ville Childcare Centre has been going back to its Maltese roots. I love that their curriculum strips away technology from day-to-day activities and allows kids to experience them in more meaningful ways.

Care is split between baby care and childcare, which I love since it allows different age groups to work on the current skills they’re developing. Some notable skillsets that are taught here are counting, writing, and reading, which are typical lessons.

Aside from these, students are also given valuable lessons on soft skills, literacy understanding, and communication development.

I absolutely adore their mascot, Benny Bunny, as he allows students to learn about important role models. These include prominent figures, such as artists, chefs, and postmen.

Awards are aplenty at this preschool, with their service earning several, such as the Outstanding Childcare Award and Excellence in Childcare.

The only concern is that applications are only available every 8 months, so be sure to apply as soon as they open.

Pros

  • Over 5 years of service
  • Technology-free daycare
  • Covers a wide range of subjects
  • Has unique and adorable mascot
  • Award-winning preschool

Cons

  • Applications are only available every 8 months

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Lil’ Ville

“I can’t say enough wonderful things about Lil Ville and the adjacent schools! From the moment we enrolled our child, we felt welcomed and supported by the entire staff. The carers are incredibly nurturing and attentive, creating a warm and safe environment where kids can thrive.

Every day, my child comes home excited to share what they’ve learned and the fun activities they’ve participated in. The curriculum is well-rounded, focusing on both educational and creative development. I love that they incorporate outdoor play, arts and crafts, and even community involvement into their daily routine.

Communication is top-notch; I receive regular updates and photos, which really helps me stay connected with my child’s day-to-day experiences. It’s clear that the staff genuinely cares about each child’s growth and happiness.

I am so grateful to have found a place that feels like a second home for my little ones. I highly recommend Lil Ville care centers to any parent looking for a fantastic childcare experience!”

“Our experience at Lil Ville has been wonderful. Every day, my daughter looks forward to going, and I can see how much they enjoy the fun activities and caring environment. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in my child’s growth. I especially love the weekly outdoor nature activities, which provide a great chance for the kids to explore and learn in a natural setting. It’s reassuring to know my daughter is in such a safe and nurturing place. We’re so happy with our choice and excited for the continued experience at Lil Ville.”

Established in 2007, Happy Days Childcare Centre has become one of Malta’s premier daycare centres in Gzira. Catering to children aged 3 months to 3 years, it offers enriching play-based experiences designed to support early learning and development.

I appreciate that the facility is CCTV monitored and that their students are given the utmost care and attention they deserve. Students are also taught to speak both English and Maltese here. It’s a good initiative considering today’s modern era.

Classes focus on personal and social development, which is a great skill to focus on. Additionally, I’m pleased to learn that they don’t exclude important subjects, such as mathematics and physical development.

Through fun-filled exercises, students are given the chance to apply these skills to their own experiences.

But note that they only accept children from Gzira and the surrounding areas.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of service
  • Heavily-monitored facility
  • Teaches students to be bilingual
  • Wide range of classes

Cons

  • Only accepts children within its vicinity

St. Paul’s Childcare and Pre-Learning Centre offers specialised care for children of all ages. I highly value its curriculum for its flexibility and adaptability to each child’s needs and capabilities.

Beyond supporting physical development through fine motor skills, the centre provides play-focused experiences that nurture other areas of growth. Communication and social development are also key priorities at this preschool—something I truly appreciate.

Creative development goes beyond Maltese or European art. The teachers actively encourage students to explore art from their own cultures, while also giving them the freedom to express themselves. This well-rounded approach is one of the main reasons I’m drawn to this preschool.

Its extended hours are another major advantage, especially for parents with demanding schedules, as they provide a safe and secure environment for their children.

However, these additional services can make the fees quite expensive. Still, I find them to be well worth the investment.

Pros

  • Specialised care
  • Flexible and adaptable curriculum
  • Offers a wide range of classes
  • Integrates different cultural backgrounds
  • Unique extended hours service

Cons

  • Expensive services

The best choice I could make for my son

“The best choice I could make for my son. He is very happy and making a lot of progress, learning new things every day and surprising me more and more. All the teachers are absolutely sweet and very careful to every single child – my little boy smiles as soon as we arrive in front of the door’s centre and seeing him smile, makes me feel good and puts my mind at rest.”
