The 5 Best Bike Shops in Malta to Gear Up Your Ride

  • Inventory Diversity: I checked each shop for a solid balance of high-performance road setups and durable mountain options. That mix means daily commuters and weekend trail riders can both find a frame that fits their lifestyle.
  • Workshop Expertise: I focused on the technical qualifications of the in-house mechanics, giving higher marks to shops with formal brand certifications. I prioritised workshops that can handle complex jobs like hydraulic disc brake bleeding and electronic drivetrain tuning.
  • Subsidy Support: I looked for shops that guide buyers through the paperwork for Malta's national cash rebate on bikes. That kind of help takes the stress out of investing in a brand-new commuter setup.
  • Component Accessibility: A great shop keeps vital safety gear and maintenance supplies fully stocked. I verified that essentials like certified helmets, high-lumen lights, and secure locks were readily available.

The right bike can completely change how you move around, especially with our country’s steep coastal climbs and heavy traffic.

That’s why finding the best bike shop in Malta matters. You want a local spot with reliable gear, fair pricing, and mechanics who can keep your bike running smoothly.

A few shops across the island stand out for their mix of solid inventory, helpful service, and dependable repairs. To help you choose, I looked through the top options so you can get back in the saddle with more confidence.

1. The Cyclist

the-cyclist

Website: thecyclistmalta.com

Address: Vjal Ir-Rihan, San Ġwann

Contact: +356 2766 1166 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

The Cyclist is a strong choice if you want support after you buy, not just help at checkout. This San Ġwann shop puts real focus on after-sales maintenance, with precision alignment sessions that can make longer rides feel more comfortable.

Their factory-trained mechanics give the place a reassuring feel. They seem especially useful if you want clear advice before committing to repairs or upgrades.

Another nice touch is their free interactive workshops, which cover topics across mountain bikes, road bikes, and electric models.

The trade-off is that you need to bring your bike in for a proper evaluation. They don’t diagnose issues over the phone. Competitive triathletes may also find the showroom range limited, since there’s usually only one aero setup on display at a time.

Pros

  • Strong after-sales maintenance focus
  • Free interactive cycling workshops
  • Precision rider alignment sessions
  • Factory-trained repair mechanics

Cons

  • In-person diagnosis required
  • Limited triathlon-specific inventory

Perfect Road Bike Rental Experience

Rented two road bikes and received two carbon-frame Tarmacs. Everything was set up perfectly. We had a puncture during the trip, and the bikes came fully equipped with everything needed to change the tube. The guy in the shop was very helpful and even suggested some great directions. We also got helmets and a bike lock included.

Excellent and Knowledgeable Bike Service

I would like to thank The Cyclist and in particular Maurice for the excellent service I received. After building my bike after travelling I had a couple of small issue. I went to The Cyclist where I found Maurice, the very helpful and knowledgeable bike mechanic who stopped everything what he was doing to resolve my bike issues so I could continue riding. A week later my Di2 battery was almost flat and Maurice lent me charger to charge it at my convenience at home. I really appreciate their willingness to help.

bike-it-up

Website: bikeitup.com.mt

Address: Triq il-Kbira, Mosta

Contact: +356 7714 8023

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Bike It Up! is a good fit if careful setup matters to you. Their repair technicians are certified by major names like Shimano and Magura, which gives the workshop a strong quality-control edge.

They also make buying less confusing by measuring each rider for the right frame size before ordering. Once the bike arrives, they fully assemble it and check your riding position before handing it over.

I like their simple rental system. You can reserve mountain bikes online without paying a deposit or upfront fee.

The only downside is that online rentals are not confirmed instantly. You have to wait for a manual update before finalising everything at the counter.

Their weekday schedule also includes a long midday break, so timing a visit can take a bit of planning.

Pros

  • Shimano and Magura certified technicians
  • Personalised in-store frame sizing
  • No-deposit online rental system
  • Professional pre-delivery assembly

Cons

  • Delayed manual rental confirmations
  • Long midday break in weekday hours

Top-Notch Service in Malta

This shop is my go-to bike place in Malta. Don’t let its small size be a deterrent, you’ll find in Steve Sciberras one of the most dedicated and pleasurable persons to deal with. His after sales services are among the best, and he truly seems to love his craft which is not very easy to find. Bike It Up’s website still needs love – hence minus 1 star – but the rest is top-notch.

3. Wheel Wizard

Website: wheelwizardmalta.com

Address: Triq Salvu Psaila, Birkirkara

Contact: +356 2765 0003 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM

Wheel Wizard in Birkirkara is a solid pick if bike fit matters just as much as the bike itself. Their IDmatch fitting service checks your body measurements and flexibility, then uses that data to create a setup that feels more natural on longer rides.

A friend used the IDmatch system while preparing for a long-distance ride and said it made a real difference in comfort.

I like that they offer a 12-month interest-free instalment plan without sending you through an external bank. That makes a serious upgrade feel a little more manageable.

They also have a rental fleet built for Malta’s rougher routes, which is handy if you want to test different cycling routes before buying.

Their workshop is flexible too, since you can drop by for repairs without booking ahead. However, deliveries can take up to 30 days when the team is busy. Buyers also cover carriage and insurance costs, so it’s worth checking the total before committing.

Pros

  • Custom IDmatch rider fitting service
  • Twelve-month interest-free instalments
  • Walk-in repairs with no appointment
  • Rugged-terrain hire fleet available

Cons

  • Delivery can take up to thirty days
  • Buyers cover carriage and insurance costs

Serious and Safety-Conscious Experts

Wheel Wizard is not a toy shop but a serious and safety-conscious bicycle expert giving great, honest and appreciated advice of the very best sort, a quality not often found. Ken, the owner, has many years of biking himself. It’s not surprising to find bikes, not toy ones, from a few hundred Euros for children to ones for real competitive sport at thousands. He stocks, amongst other things, Orbeo bikes – a great make.

This place is way beyond 5 stars, for sure

4. Jamon Cycles

jamon-cycles

Website: jamoncycles.com

Address: 20 Triq Il-Qadi, Żejtun

Contact: +356 7972 9069

Hours: Contact for availability

Jamon Cycles is worth a look if you prefer bikes with a traditional European feel. They import their models directly from Italy, which gives the shop a more specialised identity than a general cycling retailer.

They also operate as a retail seller, direct importer, and wholesaler. That means they usually have a steady flow of bikes and gear coming in.

One practical perk is access to Malta’s national bike subsidy scheme. When you buy a new bike here, you may be able to claim the official 18% refund, which can make a noticeable difference.

There’s a drawback, though. Their operating hours are not clear, so it’s best to call ahead before heading to Żejtun.

Pros

  • Bikes imported directly from Italy
  • Importer, retailer, and wholesaler in one
  • Helps buyers claim the 18% subsidy
  • Reliable open stock of hardware parts

Cons

  • Unclear operating hours

5. Magri Cycles

magri-cycles

Website: magricycles.com

Address: Geronimo Abos Street, L-Iklin

Contact: +356 2741 4399 | [email protected]

Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM; Saturday, 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Magri Cycles makes shopping for cycling gear feel easy, especially if you’re dropping by with a bike or car rack to sort out.

They carry cycling shoes and matching clipless pedals for different riding styles, including road cycling and mountain biking. You can also find car carrier options for standard cars, off-road vehicles, and tow-bar setups.

It’s a practical place if you’re kitting out yourself and your vehicle in one stop. The storefront has free vehicle parking, which is a small detail that makes visits much less stressful.

And I like that they offer both home delivery and click-and-collect, so you can choose what works best for your schedule.

The main drawback is the opening schedule. The showroom has a long midday break on weekdays, closes at noon on Saturdays, and stays shut on Sundays.

Pros

  • Free customer parking on-site
  • Tailored footwear and clipless pedal setups
  • Car carrier solutions for most vehicles
  • Home delivery and click-and-collect

Cons

  • Long midday closure on weekdays
  • Early Saturday close and no Sunday hours
