Some of the most fun I’ve had was at an art studio in Malta, where a few close friends and I tried our hand at pottery. It didn’t stop there—since then, we’ve explored watercolours, pastels, and even oil painting.
After visiting several studios, I’ve put together a list of the best options for beginners who simply want to relax, create, and have a good time.

At Art Club MT, the goal was to create a relaxed space where everyone, whether just starting out or already experienced, can explore their creative side in a fun and welcoming environment. The studio is run by Amy, an artist who has always been passionate about creativity and art.
Workshops are kept small, with a maximum of 10 participants, and focus on painting on different mediums each time. Their sessions encourage people to slow down, try something new, and enjoy the process. More than anything, the aim is not only to inspire your creativity but to create lasting memories.
In addition to workshops, Art Club MT also hosts children’s sessions, as well as private parties and events. These run for a minimum of an hour and a half and can be tailored to suit each group.

Classes here have a professional vibe to them, but are also fun learning experiences for beginners. Teachers aren’t strict and often encourage students to try out different media to see which works for them.
Courses are offered for children and adults, but can also be great for private events. These classes cover a range of media, including pottery, crochet, and watercolour. These are priced at €140 per class, which is quite expensive.
Nonetheless, there are even workshops and demos for unique types of art, such as miniature painting and acrylic pouring. Workshop pricing ranges between €30 to €75, which is cheap for the experience you’re getting.

Established in 1852, the Malta Society of Arts is the oldest institute on the island that promotes the study of arts and crafts. Located in the heart of Valletta, they focus on teaching various media, including pencils, crayons, and paints.
Classes here have a semi-professional atmosphere, focusing on training and each student’s competence. These are split between children and adults, with prices ranging from €96 to €100.
They also offer leisure courses aimed at developing basic skills. These are perfect for those who want to try art out as a hobby with low stakes.
Aside from these, there are specialised classes for oil painting, charcoal drawing, and even theatre and film makeup. The last one is beloved by students because they get to utilise their skills both in and out of the classroom.
However, classes here are often longer than usual and may take place on workdays.

Art Classes Malta is best for those looking for a personalised art experience. Established in 2018, their speciality is working with a broad spectrum of creative fields and environments. There is surely a class here for everyone.
The teaching method here is student-centric and competence-based. These encourage students to intuitively learn and apply techniques and skills they learn throughout the class.
They mainly cater to children but also offer several adult courses. These classes range from comic and film making to unique forms of art, such as photography. Students love the variety and can explore the art that truly matches their style.
Aside from these, there are extensive summer and winter courses that workshop students in their respective fields.
Just note that these courses are quite expensive but well worth the €145- €359 price tag.

Established in 2007, Budding Artists has been one of the best places for children and teenagers to train in the arts. They specialise in scholastic courses and even offer summer courses, so students can train year-round.
Learning art at Budding Artists starts as early as 3 to 5 years-old.
These courses will teach students a diverse range of media, such as pastels, paint, and pencils. Additionally, they will be allowed to try their hand at creating art on different surfaces, such as canvases, ceramics, and fabric.
There are also courses where parents and their children can work together. Just keep in mind that courses are per term, so register as soon as you and your child are available.
The overall atmosphere is quite light and truly focuses on unleashing students’ artistic capabilities. Parents noted how welcoming the atmosphere was and how supportive the teachers were of the unique art the kids were making.
