The 5 best counselling services in Malta for anyone seeking genuine support
Mental health isn’t something anyone should ignore, even in the paradise that is Malta. Whether you’re an expat or a local, the views simply aren’t enough to solve life’s problems.
Counsellors are available across Malta, and while the free ones are neat, the wait times are long, and it’s always best to go for the paid ones. Some are even subsidised by NGOs, providing patients with cheaper care.
With that in mind, I’ve compiled a list of the best counselling services in Malta. They’ll help stabilise patients’ mental health and listen to all their problems without judgement.
How much does counselling cost in Malta?
Counselling in Malta typically costs around €30 to €90 per session. These prices can vary widely depending on the type of therapy provided and whether it’s conducted face-to-face or online.

The Willingness Clinic is a large private practice that has been supporting patients since 2011. It is also an award-winning therapy clinic recognised by the Malta Business Awards.
They follow the APA Ethical Principles and utilise Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy to provide compassionate care to clients.
At the first appointment, patients are thoroughly assessed to determine the most appropriate therapy. However, it can be difficult to book a specific practitioner since they handle quite a lot of patients.
Still, I adore their counselling sessions since they focus on supporting individual needs and tackling life’s challenges.
Other than that, they also offer sexology and Gestalt Psychotherapy. These can both support those who are unable to talk openly about their challenges. These therapies are convenient because they’re available online or in person.
Their patients range from individuals to couples and families, showcasing their breadth. Bonus points for inclusivity, since they work with expats and LGBTQI+ individuals.

Highly recommended for anyone seeking genuine, professional mental health support.”

While there are no discounts for online sessions, I was pleased to learn that sessions here are quite cheap, costing €60 for either face-to-face or online sessions. Additionally, patients can choose a therapist or counsellor depending on their needs and language.
They offer unique assessments for several neurological conditions here, such as autism and dyslexia. These are thorough and follow specific guidelines, and patients felt comfortable and safe throughout.

Founded by Anthony Guillaumier in 1993, the Richmond Foundation has been helping the Maltese community manage their mental health issues.
The foundation is a charity first, providing aid to the elderly and the poor. They even provide services to low-income families and dutifully aid them in overcoming mental health struggles for no cost.
Some of their services include support groups that are full of caring individuals who share their experiences with work and mental health. Additionally, they provide therapeutic care for children and offer affordable therapy for adults and teens.
Their services are available in English, and they have a 24/7 crisis hotline at 1770.
Booking is simple and can be done through their crisis hotline or via the website’s support chat, OLLI.chat. But don’t expect an answer within 1 day due to the influx of patients.
An excellent psychotherapy provider company in Malta
“An excellent psychotherapy provider company in Malta. They provide offline, online (chat and virtual) session for anyone is seeking for professional therapy. Psychotherapists are very nice and good listeners. They take jobs very seriously and follow up on your cases. Depends on the level of risk and urgency they may have a long waiting list. So appointment may take time but it’s worth waiting. Highly recommended.”

Contact Details: +356 7927 1958

With locations in Santa Venera and Mosta, Hope Counselling & Psychology tailors their services to each patient’s needs, providing great counselling and psychotherapy.
It’s led by Stephanie Ciantar Cassar, who has a Master’s Degree in Counselling. She and her team help clients overcome any obstacle through talk therapy. She also specialises in anxiety and grief, alongside trauma.
Some areas that they focus on for individuals and families are marital distress, infertility, and stress management. I’ve also spoken to patients who were able to overcome addiction and anger management through talk therapy alone.
Sessions last 50 minutes to an hour and are held weekly, which I love because it helps me track patients’ progress. Additionally, I found their clinics to be non-judgmental and quite comforting.
Bookings are quick and can be done on their website. My only gripe is that the therapy rooms are quite compact, which some patients dislike due to claustrophobia.
I found such a professional and friendly environment
“I had the pleasure to be a customer of Stephanie Ciantar Cassar for two years.
It was my first time and I’m thankful that I found such a professional and friendly environment. I wish I had decided to seek for professional advice earlier in my life.
Thank you for everything!”

Melissa Mifsud is a systemic psychotherapist who is based in Malta. She primarily supports children and teenagers, as well as their families, in creating a safe and welcoming space for all.

In family sessions, patients report that, through Melissa, they were able to foster understanding and collaboration between parents and children.
Sessions here last for 60 minutes, but can be longer depending on the concern. I appreciate this since patients don’t feel pressured to rush discussions. Patients can also avail her services through convenient online sessions.
