The 4 best golf coaches in Malta for that ace in the hole

  • Experience and Expertise: I picked a coach that have been playing for at least 2-3 years and has memberships at the clubs they’re associated with.

  • Certifications and Qualifications: I chose golf coaches who are associated with the Confederation of Professional Golf and the Professional Golfers Association of Malta.

  • Teaching Approach: I chose golf coaches who are patient and offer good advice and proper technique when teaching students.

  • Facilities and Environment: I focused on golfers who have access to well-maintained golf courses and make use of golf carts, as these reflect a more complete and practical playing setup.

Golf is such a tedious yet fun sport to learn. But learning the ropes can be difficult on your own, especially when learning the proper techniques.

That’s why, if you’re looking to improve your game and feel more confident on the course, I’d suggest working closely with a golf coach instead. They’re like personal trainers but for golf. They can teach the proper ways to play and the rules.

While limited, I’ve gathered some of the best golf coaches in Malta that I could find. Through their expertise, they can easily help clients become experts in no time!

How much do golf coaches charge in Malta?

Golf coaches in Malta typically charge around €40 to €70 per individual lesson. This can vary widely depending on the duration of the lesson, membership-exclusive perks, and group discounts.

With over 25 years of service, Golf Academy Malta is the premier institution when it comes to golfing. Co-founded by the Professional Golfers’ Association of Malta, this academy is dedicated to keeping the sport alive in the country.

Golf coaching is available at all levels at this academy. These are split between individual sessions, couple sessions, and group sessions. Prices vary greatly depending on whether the student is a member or not, but a good estimate is around €60 to €190, which is on the expensive side.

The duration of classes is around 45 minutes to an entire day, which is a good length. There’s also a dedicated academy called the Junior Golf, which offers 1:1 and group sessions for children.

Aside from that, I like that they have events sprinkled across the year. What’s even better is that the service is also rated on TripAdvisor and accredited by UK Coaching.

Pros

  • Over 25 years of service
  • Wide range of golfing lessons
  • Offers classes for members and non-members
  • Dedicated academy for younger students
  • Decent length of classes

Cons

  •  Expensive classes

Highly recommended if you are in Malta

“Spent a great 4 days with Henning working through several aspects of my game. Excellent coach who helped fix a few areas that really needed fixing! Highly recommended if you are in Malta, it’s a nice course too”

Excellent way of articulating instruction

“Picked up golf after a near 10 year absence through an induction course and have fallen back in love with the game. Henning is a fantastic teaching professional whose simple approach and excellent way of articulating instruction have already got me back to my best. Highly recommended.”

The Royal Malta Golf Club is one of the oldest golfing institutions in Malta, which was founded in 1888. This course has over 18 holes and can accommodate quite a few individuals, which truly showcases the scope and area of their location.

Coaching here offers a great experience, with induction courses that are best-sellers for beginners. These packages include a temporary membership, free parking, and daily access to all golf-related facilities, which is a definite plus.

However, this is a relatively expensive option at around €485. Even so, I appreciate that clients can redeem €200 toward an actual membership. In addition, women receive a €50 discount supported by the Malta Golf Association.

Clients can also avail a single-day group program experience, which is fairly cheap at around €35 per member.

I also particularly like that each hole presents its own challenges and unique experience, which is becoming increasingly rare in golf courses these days.

Pros

  • Over 18 challenging holes
  • Wide range of golf lessons
  • Provides temporary membership to clients
  • Offers a €50 discount to women
  • Unique single-day option

Cons

  • Expensive memberships

I feel lucky to have had such an experience

“I went to Malta with the intention of relaxing and playing golf for a weeks brake. I didn’t know anyone at the club so booked in 3 days back to back, double golf lessons with Henning, the golf pro. The lessons focused on exactly what I needed (short game) they where interesting, fun and varied. Henning could see I also wanted to play a round after the lessons so arranged for me to play with some members. In such a short time I felt very at home, had the full members experience and was looked after like one. Price was very reasonable considering. I feel lucky to have had such an experience. I will be back! Thank you RMC”

Very friendly staff

“Very friendly staff. Clubs on loan in good quality. Fun golf course. Not very long though.

Signature hole #7 Par 3 over a stone bridge is unique. Absolutely worth a visit.”

The RMGC Junior Academy is more than just a training programme for young players; it is a supportive community that connects professionals with aspiring golfers, providing a nurturing environment as they learn the sport.

Students aged 4 to 18 are welcome to enrol in this programme, and it caters to both beginners and advanced juniors. Students enjoy the weekly sessions, and many appreciate the consistent feedback they receive from their coaches.

When students are accepted, they’re separated into different age groups that cater to their skills. I like that they’re all given the chance to try out each hole, and the older groups are given the chance to try out all 18 holes each class.

There are also scholarships available that seek to support young golfers.

However, students who excel will have to wait until they’re old enough to go above their current grade.

Pros

  • Focuses on younger golfers
  • Wide range of classes
  • Caters to several age groups
  • Offers scholarships

Cons

  • Students are restricted to their age groups

The course itself is exceptionally well-maintained

“I had the pleasure of playing at Royal Malta Golf Club recently, and it was a fantastic experience. I hadn’t known much about the club beforehand, but upon arrival, the reception staff kindly took the time to explain the exciting new developments. They shared that a brand-new course had recently opened, featuring 18 USGA-spec greens and new tees, launched in September. These upgrades have truly elevated the overall quality of the course.

The course itself is exceptionally well-maintained, with fast greens and fairways that feel like carpets under your feet. It’s a challenging yet beautiful layout, perfect for golfers of all levels.

What made the day even more special was enjoying breakfast and lunch on the panoramic terrace, which offers stunning views of the surrounding scenery. It was the perfect setting to relax and soak in the atmosphere before and after my round.

Overall, Royal Malta Golf Club exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a top-quality golf experience in Malta.”

A very enjoyable course

“A very enjoyable course in great condition with lots of interesting holes – especially the par 3 6th played over an ancient archway. Greens had just been sanded but still rolled beautifully. Excellent facilities and the staff in the pro shop were very friendly. Security on the gates feels a bit unwelcoming and paying for parking is a bit excessive after already spending over €100 for the round. This didn’t dampen the day though and I look forward to playing again sometime in the future.”

With over 100 years of service, Marsa Sports Club has been giving lessons to several generations of Maltese. This academy offers a cheaper alternative for adults and minors at around €10 to €20.

Students can easily try out any of the holes available at the course. These come with an additional fee of to €35 to €100, depending on the number of holes. I like that clients can also hire equipment at this course, which is great for those trying out the sport.

As for coaches, there are no dedicated services, but members are often seen aiding newcomers through their first times. Personally, I find this better, as it offers community-based learning rather than an academy service.

Also, it is important to note that students are required to follow the appropriate dress code, as the club maintains strict standards, particularly regarding spiked shoes.

Pros

  • Over 100 years of service
  • Cheaper alternative
  • Offers equipment hiring
  • Community-based teaching

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer dedicated golf programs
  • Strict dress code
