Find your sound at the 5 best musical instrument stores in Malta

Product selection: We looked for stores that offer a well-curated range of instruments accessible to any skill level.

Accompanying services: We also selected stores that do more than just sell, offering valuable services such as repairs, rentals, and delivery.

Pricing: We prioritised stores that offer transparent, fair pricing without sacrificing instrument quality, regardless of price.

Customer reviews: Finally, we sought customer feedback via interviews and surveys to gauge which stores stand out in customer service, product handling, and instrument knowledge.

Even though I’m no musician myself, I have a strange obsession with wandering into musical instrument stores in Malta. There’s just something about them that completes my day.

Maybe it’s the polished guitars lined up neatly on a shelf, or maybe it’s the smell of fresh wood and varnish—but whatever it is, I know it’s even more interesting for those who really know how to play them.

For these people, they don’t just browse; they look for quality, long-term investment, and services they can rely on. And if that’s what you’re looking for as well, these are the shops where that all comes together.

Brincat Pianos has been operating for 60 years and is well known in Malta for its high-quality selection.

Their product range is more premium-focused, with entry-level pianos starting from €6,000 and options available for more advanced players. Depending on the model and craftsmanship, prices can extend significantly higher for their more prestigious selections.

They are, in fact, the go-to for some of the world’s most illustrious brands. This includes C. Bechstein, Steinway & Sons, Zimmermann, and so on. These are the types that you would frequently find in the finest concert halls around the globe.

They also have a great selection of modern units, like hybrid and digital pianos.

And as we’re all aware, the logistics of moving a piano can be a hassle if the customer has to handle it themselves. That’s why they handle the transport of these heavy yet delicate instruments through their very own delivery service.

Their showroom is available for appointments only to ensure every patron receives undivided attention. Although it’s a bit restrictive, many patrons appreciate the personalised attention they get from the staff and the quiet environment.

Pros

  • 60 years of operation
  • Wide brand selection
  • Can cater to different budgets
  • In-house logistics provider
  • Personalised attention
  • Offers second-hand pianos for rent and sale from just €50 per month

Cons

  • Exclusively sells pianos
  • No walk-in showroom visits

Beautiful space

“Visited the new showroom in Naxxar – beautiful space. Have to admit I knew nothing about pianos going in, but their knowledge and passion are infectious!”

Address: Valletta Road Triq Valletta Il-Mosta, MST 9010

Business Hours: Monday to Friday, 10 AM–1 PM, 2–7 PM

Website

What started as a small store in 1988 became one of the island’s leading suppliers of musical instruments. Not only do they ship worldwide, but Olimpus Music has become an official distributor for brands like Shure and Yamaha.

Their inventory includes many instrument types, such as percussion, brass, woodwind, and audio gear, like digital mixers. They’re basically a one-stop shop for any music needs.

According to many patrons, you get honest advice from the staff, who are also expert musicians. So, they didn’t have a really hard time choosing despite the number of options.

Services offered here are pretty appealing as well, starting from piano and drum kit rentals for one-off gigs and a chance to “feel” it before purchasing. There’s also a free delivery across Malta and Gozo for orders over €100.

But what we like most is their assistance with the government VAT rebate, which allows buyers to claim up to 15% back on their spending. Customers, especially students, find this very helpful as well.

However, some people pointed out the lack of proactivity in communication, especially regarding late deliveries or repairs.

Pros

  • Almost 40 years of operation
  • Large inventory of musical instruments
  • Provides rentals and repairs
  • Worldwide delivery
  • Free local delivery
  • Financial assistance
  • Honest guidance

Cons

  • Occasional lack of proactivity in updates

It turned into a much better experience

“Great work should be appreciated! Went to get my Slipknot Jim Root Telecaster some new strings and got it back from the workshop, freaking awesome! I don’t think it’s ever looked that good! I’m so happy! Honestly, playing it feels just like the day I got it! I thought I was paying for applying new strings. Apparently, it turned into a much better experience. Thank you and keep it up! This is going on my Music Instagram page: Maltese monstrosity music.”

“The one-stop show for your music needs, from instruments to accessories and valuable advice, Olimpus gives you peace of mind that you are dealing with experts in the field. Check it out if you want to invest your hard-earned cash into your passion in a proper, smart way.”

Business Hours:

With over 30 years of experience, Knight Music has grown from a niche shop specialising in rock, classical, and jazz music to a full-scale provider of instruments and accessories. It was founded by Wilfred Buttigieg, a famous artist in Malta in the ‘90s.

You can shop both in their showroom and online, allowing them to handle local and international deliveries. In fact, buyers frequently mentioned mindful packaging to ensure the instrument remains secure during transit.

When it comes to their inventory, we like that they don’t just stock a vast selection of guitars, drums, and orchestral instruments. They also stock individual parts and accessories for restoration and customisation.

Thanks to the wide range of options, you’ll find prices from affordable to high-end professional equipment. In addition to the bits and pieces, they also offer technical services, including repairs and audio system setup.

The only downside we heard from patrons is that the shop can get crowded, so the staff’s attention can feel rushed.

Pros

  • 30 years of experience
  • Online and showroom shopping
  • Secured and mindful packaging
  • Also sells instrument parts and accessories
  • Technical support
  • Options for every budget

Cons

  • The shop can become crowded

Amazing experience

“Bought my first electric guitar here—amazing experience! Great selection, friendly staff, and I was able to try everything without feeling rushed. Highly recommend!”

An amazing shop that has pretty much everything

What an amazing find this store was! An amazing shop that has pretty much everything! The staff is amazing towards their customers and very knowledgeable too, in particular, Joel! I’ve been to a few music shops in Malta, this one, in my opinion, is by far the best on the island!”

Sun Sounds may not be a large retailer, but it has received high praise from its patrons for its quality instruments and personalised service since 2014. In addition to selling, they offer rentals, repairs, and even lessons from local musicians.

While they mostly sell stringed instruments and accessories, they also have a decent selection of pianos, percussion and even traditional instruments like Afroton.

Actually, they’re pretty popular for sourcing rare and vintage guitars from brands like Martin and Fender. And on top of that, they can buy and trade used instruments, making it a go-to spot for collectors and those upgrading.

They mostly deliver locally, with a very reliable service, but they can also assist in international shipping as needed. In fact, they’ve successfully shipped rare instruments as far as Australia.

On pricing, it’s already a given that the collectables represent a great value. But for other instruments, many customers mentioned receiving fair deals, especially with the accompanying services.

Pros

  • 12 years of operation
  • Great services
  • Source of rare and vintage guitars
  • Trade-in opportunities
  • Can ship globally
  • Competitive pricing

Cons

  • Smaller inventory

Top-notch customer service

“While searching for a rare guitar, I found the model and finish I was after in stock online at SunSounds. This guitar arrived packaged very securely and very quickly. After traveling halfway around the world, the guitar arrived in great condition with an excellent professional setup and was playing nicely. I could not be happier with my buying experience. SunSounds is an excellent guitar shop, and I highly recommend them and their top-notch customer service. Thank you, Mark!”

I could not be happier that this place exists

“Excellent shop and management! Very timely on responses and inquiries, had my (very valuable) guitar repaired with extreme attention to detail at a very generous price, and with great results. I also purchased a beautiful Martin, which I luckily snagged on the day of listing, thanks to the generous Mark. These things are not easy to find these days, and let alone in Malta – I’m very happy! The shop itself is very cozy and well-stocked, and on top of that, they also offer music lessons and services. As a local musician, I could not be happier that this place exists.”

  • Saturday, 9:30 AM–12:30 PM

Band Aid Music began as a small repair shop in 1992 and became a notable retailer for musical instruments and audio gear. Today, they’re an official distributor for some world-renowned brands, including Hofner, Aria, and Washburn.

Both their international and local logistics are quite reliable, even delivering instruments to places like Alabama and France without any issues.

They’re actually a staple when it comes to concerts on the island. Thanks to their rental services, which provide professional amplifiers, drum kits, and even pianos. Not to mention, they can also do the setup and technical support for these live events.

They’ve even worked with stars like Tom Jones and James Blunt, which is the kind of calibre that really seals the deal for us.

And of course, the shop continued its roots as a workshop, and they’re pretty good at it. In fact, many patrons come here when they need a reliable hand with antique or vintage instrument restoration.

However, it seems they specialise more in stringed instruments and audio, and have less variety in other types like brass or woodwind.

Pros

  • 14 years of operation
  • Brand partnerships
  • Reliable international and local logistics
  • Impressive event support and rental services
  • Restoration skills

Cons

  • Limited inventory

Very nice doing business with them

“Bought a Fender bass from Charles, and everything went smoothly. The bass was very well packed, it was shipped quickly, and it plays great. Very nice doing business with them.”

– Frank Timmerhuis, Google Review

Highly recommended

“If you’re looking for quality vintage high-tech equipment, this is the place. Recently, I acquired an old school Randall 50-w tube combo, and my expectations were highly exceeded. Moreover, the owner runs maintenance and calibration for several instruments. Highly recommended.”
