These 5 trusted veterinarians in Malta make pet care feel easy

  • Range of Services and Specialisations: I reviewed each clinic’s offerings, from routine check-ups and vaccinations to dental care or emergency support.
  • Facilities and equipment: I looked for companies that use modern diagnostic tools, comfortable waiting spaces, and clean facilities designed to reduce pet stress.
  • Transparency in Pricing and Care Plans: I prioritised veterinarians who provide clear cost breakdowns and flexible wellness packages, ensuring that pet owners know what to expect before every visit.
  • Experience and Client Feedback: I selected clinics with strong professional backgrounds and consistent positive reviews, focusing on those praised for compassion and expert pet care.

When I first became a pet owner, I didn’t realise how important it was to find the right vet. I thought any clinic would do, as long as they could handle the usual vaccines and check-ups.

But after a few visits, I learned that veterinarians are more than just medical experts. They’re your partner for your pet’s well-being—someone who ensures the best treatment and makes your pet feel like they have a second parent that cares for them.

Lucky for you, there are veterinarians in Malta who provide the best pet experience. Whether you have a furry friend or exotic companions, these local vets make sure your pets get the attention and treatment they deserve..

How much do veterinary services cost in Malta?

In Malta, veterinary services typically cost from €25 to €60 per consultation, depending on the pet type, services needed, and clinic facilities. Emergency visits may cost extra, but most clinics offer affordable wellness packages for pets.

When I first walked into Christa’s Pet Clinic, I knew that they’re not only focused on urgent care, but also emphasise practical services like parasite control and diagnostics.

Their parasite-control programme stood out to me. It’s a year-round protection from pests like fleas, ticks, and even parasites. The clinic believes that prevention isn’t an option, but a part of good pet care.

One equally impressive service is their diagnostics. Thanks to on-site lab imaging and diagnostics, Christa’s Pet Clinic can easily uncover conditions while also creating tailored treatments for your pet.

The diagnostic process is an important aspect that keeps pet owners confident and relaxed, knowing that experts can evaluate anything in-house.

The only drawback? They don’t cater to ultra-specialist services like exotic animal surgeries. You might need referrals beyond the clinic for these cases.

Pros

  • Offers urgent care
  • Offers preventive services
  • Provides on-site lab imaging and diagnostics
  • Gives tailored treatment plans
  • Provides in-house assessments

Cons

  • Does not cater to specialised services
  • Rare cases need referrals to other vets

Dr. Christa and her team were absolute heroes

“After almost 20 days of watching my dog suffer with pain and fever, I kept taking her to the vet, sometimes several times a week.

Despite her worsening condition, he only ran one blood test that was inconclusive, and insisted on just treating the symptoms instead of looking for the real cause of the inflammation. I repeatedly asked him to do an abdominal ultrasound, but he refused.

That’s when I decided to seek a second opinion, and I couldn’t be more grateful that I found Dr. Christa and her amazing team. By the time we arrived, Maya was in critical condition, barely holding on, and they truly saved her life.

It was an incredibly difficult time, with daily visits to the clinic, surgery, injections, constant monitoring, and so much care.

There were moments when I thought Maya wouldn’t make it, but Dr. Christa and her team were absolute heroes.

I will be forever thankful for their dedication, compassion, and expertise.

They gave me back my little Maya, and I couldn’t be more grateful.

A big, big thank you to all of you ♥️♥️

Unfortunately, Google only allows me to give 5 stars , I wish | could give 1,000 to this incredible team! ✨”

Your pet will be taken good care of here

“If I could give Christa’s Pet Clinic more than five stars, I would. After a terrible experience the week before at a different practitioner, the staff at this clinic did absolutely everything to facilitate us on such short notice. It was a visit which required an uncomfortable but necessary injection, and yet it went smoother and quicker than we could possibly have expected. My dog showed no sign of discomfort, pain or even notice of the needle before, during and after — and our anxieties were laid to rest. Dr Sara and her trainee assistant had the best bedside manner that I have ever encountered at a veterinary clinic. Not only were they welcoming, warm and reassuring, but they explained their reasoning behind every decision. Your pet will be taken good care of here!”

With more than 30 years of experience, Vetcare has built a solid reputation as a trusted, full-service clinic in San Ġwann.

One of the things that really caught my eye was their microchipping and pet passports service. It’s more than just a legal requirement because it’s considered a necessity for responsible pet ownership.

By law, dogs over four months are required to be microchipped, and Vetcare handles everything from insertion to registration and provides travel documents.

An equally impressive feat is their clinical animal behaviour offering. Led by a qualified specialist, the clinic tackles issues like separation anxiety, storm phobias, and house-soiling.

This means you’re not just treating symptoms, you’re addressing the main cause, which gives the pet and the owner a better quality of life.

The only limitation here is that consultations regarding behaviour issues need to be carefully scheduled and referred to specialists. Plus, walk-ins aren’t allowed.

Pros

  • Over 30 years of experience
  • Provides microchipping services
  • Offers pet passport services for travelling
  • Offers clinical animal behaviour consultations
  • Promotes responsible pet ownership

Cons

  • Walk-ins aren’t allowed for behavioural consults

I was so impressed with how promptly and efficiently the team responded

“I lived in Malta for two years and always trusted VetCare Animal Clinic with my pet’s health. During that time, they provided the very best care, professionalism, and attention, and I always felt reassured knowing my pet was in good hands.

Now, years later, I reached out to request my pet’s full medical history for insurance purposes, and I was so impressed with how promptly and efficiently the team responded. Within no time, I had everything I needed — a true testament to their outstanding customer service and dedication, even long after we had moved.

I am once again extremely happy with VetCare Animal Clinic. Their kindness, efficiency, and genuine care for pets and owners alike really set them apart. Highly recommended to anyone in Malta looking for a trustworthy and compassionate veterinary clinic.”

Their empathy and understanding have been amazing

“Recently, we sadly had to say goodbye to our beloved dog Coco. Since he was diagnosed with cancer, a year ago, Vetcare has been incredible. We couldn’t have asked for a better team of vets and nurses to take care of him. Their empathy and understanding has been amazing and we are extremely grateful to everyone we saw during this time ; Dr Korvac, Dr Julia and above all Dr Andrew. A special mention to all the hardworking veterinary nurses who do such an amazing job too. Thank you everyone at Vetcare in San Gwann.”

Visiting Animal Aid, I was impressed by how they treat standard services with the same care as emergencies. From the moment I walked in, I sensed a professional team that truly cares for pets.

I brought my dog in for dental cleaning, and the vet explained how this doesn’t just fight bad breath. It prevents gum disease and even heart or kidney complications.

They showed me before-and-after pics from my dog’s cleaning, and walked me through how bacteria in the gums can affect my pet’s overall health. It was clear that preventive care was one of their strong suits.

What also stood out was their connection with an after-hours emergency network through the Malta Veterinary Association. This means they can cater to sudden issues, giving pet owners peace of mind.

If there’s one small downside, it’s that the clinic doesn’t offer many specialised treatments. The advanced surgeries or rare conditions might be referred elsewhere.

Pros

  • Caters to both standard and emergency services
  • Offers thorough dental cleaning
  • Promotes preventive care awareness
  • Offers after-hours emergency response
  • Connected to the Malta Veterinary Association

Cons

  • Doesn’t offer specialised treatments or advanced surgeries

Takes time to check your pet

“The veterinary clinic was recommended to me by the MSPCA after I already had to visit other vets with my cat and had either unnecessarily bad or expensive experiences elsewhere. The doctor really takes his time to check your pet, is gentle and kind. Always a very positive and helpful experience with good tips on how to take care, and keep my cat calm and safe during his upcoming flight to Germany. It’s really making a difference for my cat and me. I highly recommend and could not be more grateful for all the help!”

The staff of the clinic were pleasant and helpful at all times

“Came with a very sick dog in desperation. My dog was examined by Dr. Quentin Lawson, he was given appropriate acute management and diagnosis with outmost care. Further follow up was excellent.

On top of outstanding medical service provided i was pleasantly surprised with their prices compared to other clinics.

Staff of the clinic was pleasant and helpful at all times.

Definitely would recommend their services to other pet owners.”

A friend of mine recently recommended Animal Medical Centre in Attard, so I decided to check it out. I can now see why many pet owners trust them.

The clinic feels bright and calm the moment you walk in, with friendly staff who help you feel at ease. They really take their time with each case they handle.

What stood out the most to me was their house calls. Their vets can visit your home for check-ups and minor treatments, which is a huge relief if your pets get anxious about car rides.

They also run nurse clinics, where trained nurses guide you on everyday care like weight checks and dental hygiene. It’s the kind of personal touch that helps you feel supported even after leaving the clinic.

The only drawback here is that the clinic doesn’t cater to complex cases like orthopaedic treatments or oncology cases.

Pros

  • Welcoming and calming clinic
  • Offers house calls for pet services
  • Provides a nurse clinic for guidance on pet care
  • Teaches owners about everyday care
  • Personalised and supportive services

Cons

  • Doesn’t cater to orthopaedic or oncology cases

The doctor has an incredible approach to animals

“I recommend Animal Medical Center! The doctor has an incredible approach to animals – kind, patient, and full of genuine care. You can truly see his big heart and deep passion for what he does, combined with impressive knowledge and experience. Our dog Lucek had been suffering from pain for weeks, and we had been going from one vet to another without any results.  It was only here that we finally got the proper treatment. Thanks to the doctor, Lucek is now happy and pain-free. Highly, highly recommend!”

I was impressed with how professionally they handled my dog

“I recently scheduled a short notice appointment for my dog to receive an allergy shot. I am extremely satisfied with the service my dog received. Not only did she receive everything she needed, but she also received additional care that exceeded my expectations. They did a comprehensive check-up, which included nail trimming as well. The veterinarian also tailored a specialised programme to address my pet’s specific needs. I was impressed with how professionally they handled my dog, especially considering how stressed she was. Their passion for their work is evident.”

I first discovered QVC when I was searching for a clinic that offered more than just routine check-ups. I wanted a place equipped to handle both minor and more advanced cases under one roof.

What immediately impressed me was how organised their consultations are. They first start with first-line consultations. This is perfect for general health checks, vaccinations, and wellness advice.

But what really sets them apart are their advanced consultations. It covers cases in neurology, orthopaedics, and more—services that many clinics in Malta don’t provide.

It’s clear that they’re equipped for complex care, with modern diagnostic tools and a knowledgeable team. During my visit, they thoroughly explained the importance of using diagnostic imaging to pinpoint pet issues.

If there’s one small catch, it’s that advanced consultations are in high demand, so booking a slot needs some patience.

Pros

  • Offers both routine and advanced consultations
  • Handles special cases like neurology or cardiology
  • Uses modern diagnostic tools
  • Provides clear explanations to all pet owners
  • Fully-equipped to handle complex cases

Cons

  • Advanced consults are hard to schedule

The remarkable improvement is a miracle in our books

“Dr. Alina at QVC Qormi saved our cat’s life. We recently moved here from the U.S., and I can say that is she is the best veterinarian we’ve ever had.

Our cat Hedwig was losing weight, not eating, and not acting her normal self, so we took her here to have her blood drawn. She is a very feisty cat and all other doctors have had to sedate her to take her blood. Dr. Alina and her colleague were able to do it, even without calming meds. She was so gentle and kind with Hedwig.

Unfortunately, Hedwig has been diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease, but with the help of the doctor and her wonderful colleagues, she is doing much better. Hedwig was on her death bed, but after 3 weeks of careful treatment prescribed by Dr. Alina, she is almost back to being herself. Her remarkable improvement is a miracle in our books and we will forever be grateful to Dr. Alina and her team. We couldn’t recommend her and this clinic more.

Thank you so much for treating us and our cat with so much kindness, patience, and thoughtfulness. We will never forget it.”

If it were not for QVC, I might have lost my cat

“QVC are one of the best clinics in Malta, and one of the very few to offer their own emergency services 24/7.

If it was not for QVC i might have lost my Cat – Ollie.

Ollie is only 3 years old and has suffered multiple urinary blockages, however, QVC have really invested in his well being and are determined for Ollie’s issue to resolve, and for him to live a normal a life as possible.

they do not give up easily and apply all the latest scientific methods possible.

They listen to your concerns, are open to suggestions and no matter how many questions – they answer them all with care and patience.

They truely do care, and no matter at what hour.

All the vets we have encountered so far are absolutely great and really do go the extra mile.

Huge thanks to Dr Lisa, Dr Adrian and Dr Shaun.”
