Use these 5 best VPNs in Malta to stay secure while you Netflix and chill
Living in Malta, you might not think a VPN is essential until you’re stuck trying to access a show from the UK or other countries, and you’re staring at a blocked website.
Trust me, I’ve been there, and it’s frustrating. And after running out of options, I had one lightbulb moment: “Aha, VPN!”
So, I tested a few services to see which ones actually solved these issues. Some were buggy enough to test your patience, while others made my wallet cry.
But after the madness, I finally found the ones that work here. So, here’s the scoop on the top VPNs available for Malta that won’t leave you hanging.
How much does a VPN service cost in Malta? VPN services in Malta typically cost between €3 and €5 per month for budget options, €6 and €9 for mid-range plans, and €10 and above for premium services. Prices can vary depending on features such as speed, security, and server options. |
1. NordVPN

Contact: support.nordvpn.com
What we like most about NordVPN is that it enhances its security with double encryption. Basically, it routes your data through two servers instead of one. It adds an extra layer of protection without slowing things down, and we really like this feature.
It also has over 5,400 servers across 59 countries, so finding a solid connection is rarely an issue. Additionally, it offers specialised servers for P2P sharing, Onion over VPN, and even obfuscation to work in countries with heavy censorship.
On top of that, what really stands out is NordLynx’s custom protocol. Not only is your connection secure, but it’s fast too. This is really perfect for streaming, downloading, or general browsing.
Then there’s their top-notch CyberSec. It’s a built-in feature that blocks annoying ads and malicious websites, which adds a surprising layer of browsing comfort.
However, the app interface can feel a bit clunky on a desktop. The map-based origin looks good, but dragging and zooming can be frustrating when you’re trying to connect quickly.
Knowledgeable staff
“I am a Luddite and don’t really understand all this IT stuff. But I wanted to browse more safely and access streaming services all over the world. I was so grateful to connect with Roberta Torrente for support because she was not only really knowledgeable about everything I need to know but also because she was super patient with my lack of knowledge and didn’t mind taking the time to answer every question I had. Not only do I now feel more sure about how to use it, I feel like I have learned more about how it all works, which is fabulous. Thank you Roberta!”

Great value and so easy to use
“This is completely unsolicited praise, @NordVPN, is very helpful as an advertiser testing search ads, and as a work-anywhere person who needs to ensure I have a safe internet connection. Great value. So easy to use, I actually use it. Keep up the good work.”

2. ExpressVPN

Contact: expressvpn.com/support/
ExpressVPN keeps things running smoothly without those annoying slowdowns, making it perfect for streaming and gaming.
We appreciate that it utilises AES-256 encryption, a military-grade standard that is exceptionally difficult to crack. This, combined with OpenVPN and IKEv2 protocols, ensures that your data remains secure.
The bonus here is the TrustedServer technology. It means that no data is stored on hard drives, so once the system powers down, your activity is erased. And if privacy is your priority, this feature is a major win.
Another valuable feature we found is split tunnelling, which allows you to select specific apps to run through the VPN, while others bypass it. This gives you more control over your internet traffic and is especially useful if you want to stream while browsing freely without the VPN.
However, ExpressVPN isn’t cheap. The €12.95/month plan is pretty standard, but the 6-month plan (€59.95) or the annual plan (€99.95) offers better value.
I am very thankful for Express VPN
“Since installing ExpressVPN we have eliminated many small and big problems that we had experienced with other services. We were hacked while using another well known service and I had to cancel and get a reissue of my credit card twice within 3 months. With Express, this has come to a screeching hault. I am very thankful for ExpressVPN.”

Going back to Express for sure
“This is a true VPN. You can surf without being detected that you are using a VPN. It allows to to access sites in other global regions. Never had any issues using Express VPN. Switched to Bitdefender VPN because its free with my subscription. Big mistake. So many sites block me because they dont allow access via a VPN and Bitdefender seems to advertise, hey look this dude is using a VPN. Going back to Express for sure.”

3. CyberGhost

Among other VPNs, CyberGhost is known for its streaming-ready approach. In fact, its optimised servers are clearly marked for Netflix, BBC iPlayer, and more. We really like this feature because this makes it incredibly easy to bypass geo-blocks without hassle.
It’s also one of the few VPNs on this list with NoSpy servers. Meaning, it provides extra security since it operates its own servers in Romania, offering better privacy controls.
We also appreciate the automatic Wi-Fi protection and built-in ad and malware blocking features. These add a layer of convenience and safety without needing an extra setup.
The downside is that the desktop app can be sluggish to start, and the interface isn’t quite as polished as some competitors. We also noticed occasional issues when switching between streaming servers, especially during peak hours.
But don’t worry because pricing is also decent, with a 3-year plan starting at around €88.
Works fine, and I am very pleased
“I am very happy with CyberGhost VPN, i tried different other vpns like n**dvpn and s**fs**rk, but with n**dvpn i had probelms with streaming and gaming because of the special protocols and with s**fs**rk often the software had some issues and sometimes it was too slow or had problems with streaming services. With CyberGhost there are the different server for special purposes. Thats a great idea and works fine. At the moment i have no problems and iam very pleased.”

Gives me peace of mind
“CyberGhost gives me peace of mind when it comes to online security and privacy. The strict no-logs policy is a major plus, and the automatic Wi-Fi protection is incredibly convenient. I appreciate the range of server locations, allowing me to access content globally while staying protected.”

4. Surfshark

Contact: support.surfshark.com
If you’re looking for a VPN that can protect all your devices at once, Surfshark’s unlimited device connections are a major perk. It’s particularly well-suited for larger households or individuals managing multiple devices, like us.
What we like about this is that it operates with AES-256 encryption and protocols like WireGuard and IKEv2. With this, you’ll know your data is locked down tight.
The CleanWeb feature is a nice touch too, since it blocks ads and malware for a smoother experience.
For those extra security-conscious, they have MultiHop. Meaning, it sends your traffic through two servers, adding a layer of protection.
Additionally, the Camouflage Mode helps conceal your VPN usage from your ISP, thereby avoiding potential monitoring. Honestly? This had us sold.
However, some users reported a dip in speed when connected to distant servers, especially in countries with limited server options. This can be frustrating for anyone looking to stream or game without buffering.
No overly complex functions
“I have used several different Virus Security Programs over the past 5 years and I have found Surf Shark to be one of the better ones. Surf Shark is intuitive to use and there are no overly complex functions to contend with. I have been using Surf Shark for nearly a year and my Desktop and Mobile are in “koool runnnnins, man!”
- Ted Allen, TrustPilot Review
Offers complete global coverage
“SurfShark VPN service offers complete global coverage with over 3200 servers worldwide, ensuring reliable connections. The robust, industry-leading encryption will safeguard your online traffic. Best of all more than any other VPN app including ExpressVPN is the unlimited simultaneous connections, allowing you to secure all your devices under one subscription. It is also offers the most free additional months with annual subscription.”

5. Private Internet Access (PIA)

Contact: [email protected]
Private Internet Access is great if you like customizable settings and affordable pricing without overcomplicating things. It offers numerous options, making it extremely flexible for those who want to explore further.
You can choose between encryption levels (AES-128 or 256), switch protocols, set DNS, or even automate rules per network. We admire that this setting is more advanced than most services on this list, but beginner-friendly defaults are still there to keep things simple.
Another bonus is their MACE feature. It blocks ads, trackers, and even malware, making browsing much cleaner without the need for separate extensions. On the downside, features like this could use improvement with their occasional struggles against aggressive ad sites.
Also, the desktop app could use a refresh. It looks and feels somewhat old-school, with its cluttered menus and dated layout, making navigation of settings more frustrating than it should be.
Much better than my expectations
“My Surfshark account was running out so on a recommendation i took out a subscription with Private Internet Access. it was great value and cheaper than my previous company! so far its great, much much better than my expectations. the app for windows 11 is really nice, i don’t have any problems connecting with my local network as i did with Surfshark. the speeds are good, and it’s a good choice if you are doing any homelab work! It does it’s job nicely sitting in the background giving you online protection without bothering you. i’m really impressed so far! i’m looking forward to setting up the app on all my devices, i love the look & feel of the windows app, so much better that what i’ve been using before! this is looking to be a really great purchase!! Highly recommended and not much money to invest in making you internet browsing more secure. its so nice to get a product that does it’s job and so much more. i’m very happy!!!”

Excellent VPN services
“Excelent VPN services. My job requires me to use all operating systems and I can connect them all to the same dedicated IP and all 6 devices at once! PIA is the only service I found that supports dedicated IP on linux. It even comes with a GUI! There is no internet speed issues, especially when setting the app to use the WireGuard protocol. As a software developer, I appreciate the split tunnel feature so much. I can just add the VPN-sensitive apps or exceptions to the list and I don’t need to keep turning the connection on and off (ex. Docker). On top of all that, the support chat always answered within minutes when I needed information. I highly recommend everyone to at least give it a try!”
