Try the 10 best wine tastings in Malta for a sip of paradise
I used to think wine tasting was just for fancy people who knew all the right words—those who swirl, sniff, and nod thoughtfully.
Turns out, you don’t need to be a wine expert to enjoy a good glass in a beautiful place like Malta—just curious (and maybe a little thirsty). So, when a friend asked if Malta even had wine, I laughed and took them on a tasting tour.
And if you’re working through your list of things to do in Malta, don’t skip the wine. These are my top wine-tasting spots in Malta that I’d happily go back to any time.
1. Meridiana Wine Estate

Hours: Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
Pricing: €€
Meridiana Wine Estate was my first proper introduction to Maltese wine, and I couldn’t have picked a better place. Located near Mdina, it produces wines from 100% locally grown grapes and offers a peaceful vineyard experience just 20 minutes from Valletta.
There’s also a lovely terrace overlooking the vines where you can sip your wine slowly and enjoy the view. You can also buy bottles directly from the cellar at a lower price than in retail shops.
Their €15 tour includes a short vineyard walk, a look inside the bottling area and cellar, and a guided tasting of four wines accompanied by a small cheese board. I personally loved their Isis Chardonnay—smooth, light, and perfect for Malta’s warm climate.
Pro Tip:
They only take bookings by appointment and require a minimum of four people, so if you’re travelling solo or as a pair, try emailing them a few days in advance to join an existing group.
2. Marsovin Cellars

Location: Renfrew, Raħal Ġdid

Hours: Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM | Saturday: 10 AM – 1 PM
Pricing: €€€
If you want to dive into Malta’s wine history, Marsovin Cellars is where you go. Their cellars, dating back over 400 years, are tucked beneath the historic Marsa winery, which was founded in 1919.
Their €60 premium tasting includes a cellar tour, insight into traditional oak barrel ageing, and guided tasting of 5-6 wines. I sampled the Marnisi and Primus, both award-winning reds—bold, spicy, and beautifully layered.
The entire experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the cellar ambience is truly something else. The walls are lined with vintage bottles and barrels, and you can even catch a glimpse of old fermentation tanks.
Pro Tip:
Tours are only available on weekday mornings and must be booked in advance. Please call or email at least 3 days in advance to secure your slot.
3. Delicata Winery

Hours: Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 4 PM
Pricing: €€
Delicata has been family-run since 1907 and is probably Malta’s most iconic wine producer. I joined their guided tasting in the off-season (November to May), which showcased wines made from indigenous grapes, such as Gellewza and Girgentina.
The tasting takes place in a stylish venue overlooking Grand Harbour, adding a touch of elegance to the entire experience. Their Maltese Falcon White was crisp and fresh, perfect for seafood pairings.
They also host an annual Delicata Wine Festival in Upper Barraka Gardens every August, and I’d honestly go back just for that. It’s free to enter, and you only pay for tokens to try wines.
Pro Tip:
For a unique experience, try Delicata’s wine-tasting sessions during the off-season (November to May) for a more intimate atmosphere.
4. Ta’ Betta Wine Estates

Ta’ Betta is a boutique, luxurious hotel located in a scenic valley near Zebbug. Although they don’t take walk-ins, their private wine tasting is one of the best I’ve experienced on the island.
The tour begins with a walk through the terraced estate and concludes at a stunning tasting room overlooking olive groves and vineyards. Their wines are high-end—Isabella (a Sauvignon Blanc) and Jean Parisot (a Syrah blend) were both elegant and rich.
The whole experience felt very personal, guided by the owners themselves or one of the head winemakers. They only conduct small group tastings, with no more than eight people.
Pro Tip:
You’ll need to email them a week in advance to book. The cost starts at €75 per person. It’s pricey, but worth it for a peaceful, premium-tasting experience with no crowds.
5. San Niklaw Estate

San Niklaw is in the countryside of Zetjun and feels like a proper hidden gem. It’s a small, family-run estate that focuses on low-intervention winemaking and grows its own indigenous grapes.
I joined their €25 tasting, which included five different wines and homemade nibbles under a shady pergola. The Gellewza Rose was the standout for me. It was very fruity and crisp, exactly what I needed on a sunny afternoon.
The owners, who are often the ones running the tastings, are generous with their time and knowledge. You’ll also get a chance to walk around the vineyard and pet the estate’s friendly dogs.
Pro Tip:
San Niklaw doesn’t regularly hold public tastings, so you’ll need to message them via Facebook or Instagram to check availability. They’re very responsive if you give a few days’ notice.
6. Tal-Massar Winery

Website: https://www.massarwinery.com/
Location: The Vineyards, Trejqa tas-Sisien, L-Għarb
Contact: +35699863529
Pricing: €€
Tal-Massar is one of the best-kept secrets in town. It is situated on a peaceful hill in Gharb, offering panoramic views that stretch over the vineyards and extend into the countryside. It’s the spot where you instantly feel like you are slowing down.
This is a true boutique setup: a one-man operation led by the winemaker himself, who walks you through his small vineyard and explains everything, from grape to glass, is done right there on site.
The vines are dry-farmed, relying entirely on natural rainfall, which gives the wines a more concentrated flavour and a strong connection to Gozo’s unique soil and climate.
Their tasting sessions are available on Tuesdays and Saturdays and are priced at €45 per person for a two-hour experience. That includes a detailed guided tour, four generous wine tastings, and a beautiful spread of local bites.
Pro Tip:
If you find a wine you love during the tasting, don’t wait. Buy a bottle on the spot. Tal-Massar’s wines aren’t available in retail shops or supermarkets, so the winery is the only place to get your hands on them.
7. Ta’ Mena Estate

Website: https://tamena-gozo.com/
Location: Rabat Road Xaghra, XRA 9010
Contact: +35679564939
Hours: Monday to Saturday: 10 AM – 4 PM | Sunday: 10 AM – 1 PM
Pricing: €€
If you want a true farm-to-glass experience, Ta’ Mena delivers. This estate isn’t just a vineyard; it’s also home to olive groves, citrus orchards, and a small family-run food production business.
I joined their €20 tour, which included a walk through the estate, a glimpse inside their production rooms, and a tasting of three wines accompanied by traditional Gozitan snacks. I especially liked the semi-sweet Moscato paired with gbejna (Gozitan cheese).
However, what truly sets this place apart is its food offering. You don’t just get nibbles; you get a full spread made with ingredients grown right there, from cured meats and olives to bread, pickled vegetables, and olives pressed on site.
After the tasting, you can swing by their farm shop to purchase whatever you’ve fallen in love with, whether a bottle of wine, fig jam, or a tin of cold-pressed oil.
Pro Tip:
Ta’ Mena Estate can become very busy in the summer, so I recommend booking online or calling ahead to secure your spot. Morning tours offer cooler weather and fewer people.
8. Mar Casar La Maison Du Vin Naturel Winery
Media credit: picnicbypura
Website: https://marcasar.com/
Location: Triq San Lawrenz ta’ L-Gholja, Siggiewi
Contact: +35699451332
Hours: Monday to Sunday: 11 AM to 3 PM
Pricing: €€
Founded by Mar Casar, a French-born oenologist who fell in love with Malta, this boutique estate was built around a single idea: to craft wines as naturally as possible, with no chemical additives, no filtering, and no forced fermentation.
Mar’s vision was to let the grape be for itself, with no shortcuts, no “adjustments”, and no preservatives.
That’s why Mar Casar’s wines are made using wild yeast fermentation, and they’re aged in stainless steel or neutral vessels to preserve the raw flavours of the grape and the Maltese terroir.
Pro Tip:
Can’t make it to Siggiewi? You can still try Mar Casar wines by ordering through their online shop or by checking select stockists. But the stock is small and seasonal. Once a vintage sells out, that’s it until the next harvest.
9. CassarCamilleri Ltd.

Website: https://www.cassarcamilleri.com.mt/
Location: Triq taż-Żwejt, San Ġwann
Contact: +35621824918
Pricing: €€
CassarCamilleri Ltd. is a cornerstone of Malta’s wine industry. It was born from the 2013 merger of two esteemed family-run enterprises: Marsovin, established in 1919, and the Master group, founded in 1947.
This union combined Marsovin’s rich winemaking heritage with the Master Group’s expertise in liqueurs, resulting in over 60 locally produced wines, premium spirits, and other beverages.
I booked the €30 tasting, which included five wines, a tour, and a platter of local cheeses and cured meats. The Viognier surprised me; it was zesty, mineral-rich, and incredibly refreshing.
Among their notable wines are Marsovin and Camilleri Wines. Marsovin is renowned for its commitment to quality, with wines such as Marnisi and the elegant Antonin Noir, which are aged meticulously in French oak barriques.
Pro Tip:
Their website occasionally offers tasting bundles or group discounts, so checking before you go is worthwhile.
10. Montekristo Estates
Media credit: montekristoestate
Website: https://montekristo.com/
Location: Triq Ħal Farruġ, Is-Siġġiewi
Contact: +35622033000
Hours: Open 24 hours
Pricing: €€€
Montekristo is probably the most polished and upscale winery experience on this list. It’s part of a larger estate that includes a working farm, a fine-dining restaurant, and even an amphitheatre for concerts, weddings, and cultural shows.
Their portfolio includes the Paulus Collection, known for its premium and white wines, which reflect a legacy of craftsmanship. The Montekristo Collection features diverse wines, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Syrah, and Chardonnay.
Unlike other wine spots, they serve seasonal Mediterranean bites during the tastings, such as cured meats, olives, and artisanal bread, so it feels more like a laid-back wine lunch than just a tasting.
Pro Tip:
This place shines for group events or special occasions. If you’re planning something a bit more upscale, email them ahead to inquire about private dining or pairing menus. They’ll tailor the experience to suit you.
