1. AKI – Japanese Restaurant & Cocktail Bar

Website: akimalta.com
Address: 175 Corner of Strait Street and Santa Lucia Street, Valletta
Contact: +0035679790292 | [email protected]
Hours: Sunday-Wednesday, 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM | Thursday-Saturday, 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM
AKI has earned a Michelin recommendation for blending Kyoto-style cooking with Mediterranean flavours, giving gourmet travellers a dining experience that feels truly unique.
The kitchen uses a traditional Japanese robata charcoal grill to cook wagyu beef and fresh seafood. This grilling method gives the dishes a rich, smoky flavour that’s hard to find elsewhere on the island.
We spoke with a guest who tried their omakase menu, and they especially praised the black cod.
They also have a private dining room that can seat up to 25 guests, making them a great option for corporate dinners and special gatherings.
However, keep an eye on your final bill because they automatically add a 9.5% service charge.

I had an amazing experience at Aki
I had an amazing experience at Aki on 09/05/2025! We had to push back our reservation time many times due to our transportation not knowing where the restraunt was located in Valletta but the booking personnel was very understanding and kind. We were greeted by a lovely woman at the entrance who showed us to our seats. They had a beautiful bar and dining area, which provided a wonderful ambience. Although the dining area was dark, it provided an fantastic vibe that was Instagram worthy!

Overall, it was a great dinner time
Nice environment, we were welcomed by a friendly lady and after sitting down, Ashanka assisted us in a very professional way. Service very good. However I was expecting more about the sushi, since is a fine dining restaurant with a lot of Michelin recommendations, I thought that the sushi was more of the same, you can find same sushi quality for a cheaper price and also you can find much better sushi’s around the island. Overall, it was a great dinner time.

2. LOA – South American Fusion

Website: loamalta.com
Address: Wignacourt Tower, St Geraldu Street, St Paul’s Bay
Contact: 7979 7203
Hours: Monday-Thursday, 1:00 PM – 10:30 PM | Friday, 1:00 PM – 11:00 PM | Saturday-Sunday, 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM
LOA takes a different route, pulling recipes from across South America.
They combine Argentine, Chilean, and Peruvian cooking styles, creating a colourful selection of dishes. Their fresh seafood, especially the citrus-rich ceviche, is a great example of this mix.
We also love that they host interactive masterclasses where you can learn to roll sushi and craft dishes from the chefs themselves.
The experience goes beyond the food, too. Their setting draws inspiration from mythology, with uniquely themed spaces right beside the sea.
Now, while they aren’t a traditional ethnic restaurant, their pan-regional approach offers incredible variety.
The catch is that ordering from their specialised chef tasting menus requires your entire table to participate, leaving no room for individual preferences.
Nevertheless, for a couple celebrating a special anniversary by the coast, their immersive atmosphere is hard to beat.

An exceptional dining experience from start to finish
An exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The restaurant’s stunning seaside location creates the perfect atmosphere, especially at sunset. The chef’s menu is thoughtfully curated, with every dish beautifully presented and full of fresh, perfectly balanced flavors. The cocktail selection is equally impressive, offering creative and complex drinks that pair wonderfully with the food.

The food was 10/10
Excellent dinner at Loa. Our waiter Amine was amazing and explained the menu perfectly to us he provided the best service and made the experience in the restaurant so enjoyable. We got the chefs sharing menu number 2 on his recommendation and the food was 10/10. He also provided us with great cocktail suggestions. There is also a great atmosphere in the restaurant. Probably the best experience in dining on our trip. Highly recommend a visit when in Malta.

Many upscale spots close their doors during the late afternoon, leaving you stranded if you want an off-peak meal.
The good news: The Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge Valletta keeps their kitchen running all day, ensuring you can grab a refined Mediterranean lunch or an early dinner without checking the clock.
They excel at high-end meat cuts, offering massive sharing towers loaded with beef fillet tartare and charcoal-grilled veal striploin.
If you usually frequent a dedicated steakhouse, their 600-gram Chateaubriand designed for two will easily hit the mark.
They also charge a flat, transparent cover that includes unlimited still and sparkling water, saving you from frustrating bottled-water markups.
Unfortunately, spontaneous group dinners are out of the question since parties of 10 or more must email the sales team a full week in advance.

Address: 54, Strait Street, Valletta
Contact: +356 21226777 | [email protected]
Hours: Monday, Friday-Saturday, 12:00 PM – 9:45 PM | Tuesday-Thursday, 12:00 PM – 3:45 PM | Sunday, 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM
Palazzo Preca Restaurant sits inside a stunningly restored 16th-century building on Strait Street. This gives couples celebrating a special occasion a genuinely romantic and authentic Valletta backdrop.
Head chef Ramona Preca backs up that atmosphere with serious talent, holding a decade-long track record in local restaurant guides and a special award for her work.
The dining room even features live tableside flambé presentations during Thursday lunches, adding heat, rich aromas, and drama right beside your plate.
We actually called them to check on a reservation and were immediately struck by how warm and professional the staff sounded over the phone.
But keep in mind their limited evening schedule: they don’t open for dinner on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.

5. Venus Restaurant

Website: venusrestaurantmalta.com
Address: Pioneer Road Triq il-Gandoffli, Bugibba, St. Paul
Contact: +356 9984 6767
Hours: Monday-Saturday, 6:00 PM – 10:30 PM | Sunday, 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM, 6:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Venus Restaurant operates as a compact, family-run enterprise in Bugibba, delivering an intimate hospitality style that massive commercial chains simply can’t match.
Their kitchen focuses heavily on fresh local ingredients, turning regional staples like Maltese sausage and local rabbit into sophisticated, savoury dishes.
Plus, every main course automatically includes seasonal vegetables and potatoes, so you get a complete plate without paying extra for basic sides.
They also maintain dedicated gluten-free and vegan options, making it wonderfully easy for gourmet travellers with strict dietary needs to dine safely.
Just be aware of their limited seating capacity, which leaves almost no room for last-minute walk-ins on a busy night.
But if you secure a table ahead of time, this is an excellent venue for a quiet, deeply personal culinary experience.
